Myer shopper trapped by ‘security glitch’ in store: ‘How do I get out?’

There’s a unique sort of terror that comes with being trapped in public places after they’ve closed.
Maybe it’s the complete lack of people or the total silence where there should be the buzz of people going about their business, but being the only person in such a place is scary.
Unfortunately for one Myer shopper, she found herself in such a scenario one morning on her way to the gym.
The shopper named Kaitlyn Malone shared her eerie experience on TikTok.
The 49-second clip, captioned with a message telling the Gold Coast Myer branch she was stuck in to ‘get your s**t together’, starts with Kaitlyn seemingly being shut off by a lift.
She realised what happened as soon as the doors closed.
‘What happened?’ she could be heard asking while pressing the lift’s buttons to no avail.
‘Am I stuck here?’ she asked after giving up.
Then, the clip cuts to her walking through the very empty and quiet store before stopping at a full-length mirror.
‘I’m in the middle of a f*****g Myer,’ she began.
‘I’ve got no way to explain myself right now.’
Kaitlyn revealed that at the time the video was being recorded, it was 8 in the morning.
With a note of slight panic in her voice, she continued: ‘There’s no way to get in, no way to get out.’
‘I f*****g just want to go to the gym… How do I get out?’
In total, Kaitlyn was stuck inside the Myer branch for about thirty minutes until store security was able to escort her out.
It turns out that the Myer store lifts were able to get her up the store while she was taking a shortcut to her gym, but were also unable to go down — which was why she was stuck the whole time because of a ‘security glitch’.
Kaitlyn’s video prompted a couple of responses, with one user even indicating she’s experienced issues with store lifts before.
‘Oh my God, those lifts under Myer are always broken! I feel like since it got flooded it’s been so glitchy,’ the user said.
Others shared what they would’ve done in Kaitlyn’s place.
‘I’d be going to the bedding section and plonk myself (on a bed) for the night,’ a user said jokingly.
Another added, ‘They would have found me crying and laughing for sure.’
7News reported that a door and a lift at the Myer branch were indeed left open. It was probably how Kaitlyn got inside the store.
Store staff are said to have dealt with the situation to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
For such a simple incident, this one does give off rather strange vibes!
