Mum uncovers a life-threatening surprise inside ALDI nuggets - Here’s what you need to know

When times are tough and money is tight, it’s no surprise that budget-friendly food items can be a reliable source of delicious, immediate nourishment.

A great example of a budget-friendly food that's both protein-rich and tasty is - you guessed it - chicken nuggets.

Practically every supermarket offers a pack of nuggets for an incredibly low price, and it usually doesn't make a difference whether you purchase them from Coles, Woolies, or ALDI - they're all delicious!

Plus, nuggets are convenient and can be handy when you have to feed a family (or simply your own rumbling stomach) in a hurry.

However, a recent discovery by one ALDI shopper has left us all prepared to take extra precautions when it comes to this snack...

One mum issued a warning after discovering an unexpected addition in her son's food that nearly caused a medical emergency.

The mother recalled that her three-year-old son was indulging in a pack of ALDI chicken nuggets when he almost choked on two sharp bones that were hidden among the popular snack.

‘My Mr 3 nearly choked on the bones that were in his (nuggets), thank goodness with some quick thinking he is OK,’ the concerned mum wrote in a post on ALDI Mums Facebook group.

‘I’ve continued to find a few more throughout the large bag.’

The bones hidden in the nuggets were sharp and, if it weren’t for the mum’s quick thinking, could’ve led to a more serious, and even life-threatening, incident.

The mum commented further that she had never found something similar in the nuggets she’d purchased before.

The incident made the rounds on social media and caused an uproar in the group with many being grateful for the mum’s warning, while others sent their well wishes.

One user wrote: 'Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be checking mine too.'

'Please report to ALDI. I remember bones were in hotdogs and they recalled them. I am glad your son is OK! How scary,' another added.

ALDI has yet to comment on the situation, but the supermarket invites customers who have any product complaints to contact them directly using this form so that they can investigate the case further.

Meanwhile, others made light of the hazardous situation, joking that at least the mum was assured that the chicken nuggets were actually made with real chicken meat.

Key Takeaways
  • A mum has issued a warning to parents after her son almost choked on two sharp bones hidden in ALDI chicken nuggets.
  • The mum advised to inform ALDI about the incident and several members of the group were grateful for the warning.
  • The incident serves as a reminder that not all chicken products across the board are boneless (even when you expect them to be) and we must practise precautions to avoid choking hazards.
  • ALDI encourages customers with any product issues to submit their feedback directly so it can be reviewed.

While this incident could have ended tragically, it allows us to take a closer look at what we’re eating and how we can minimise any risks associated with choking. After all, choking is a serious risk that can be deadly.

Anyone can be a victim of choking hazards, and thus, it is important to exercise caution while consuming food and be aware of the risks associated with ingesting smaller objects.

Here are some practical steps that one can take to prevent choking hazards:

1. Cut Into Smaller Pieces – When serving grandchildren, or anyone with a higher risk of choking such as the elderly or anyone with special needs, it's important to ensure that all food is cut into smaller pieces before eating. This also includes foods such as hotdogs, nuts, and grapes.

2. Keep Distractions Away – As it can be hard for grandchildren to sit still for long periods, it’s important to create a distraction-free eating environment. Remove any toys, electronic devices, and other distractions from the table which may encourage your grandchild to eat quickly or absentmindedly.

Similarly for adults, watching TV or doing another activity while eating can put you at risk of choking as it divides your attention and you may miss small objects in your food.

3. Supervised Eating – Young children and those with special care needs should always be supervised when eating, particularly those under the age of four. This allows adults to pick up on signs of choking.

Stay safe out there, folks! Also, feel free to share this article with your friends and loved ones so they can get informed about the potentially life-threatening hazard of eating chicken nuggets.

This article brought a true memory of terror back to me.
When my firstborn was almost 2 years old she was feeding on a fish finger (similar to a nugget, but made of fish instead of chicken).

She suddenly went very quiet, then her face started turning grey-blue in colour, I ended up having to eventually insert at least 3 fingers down her throat, thinking all that time I will cause damage to her throat, but that's better than choking to death.
After what seemed like forever, I eventually removed a very long, very fine, hair-like bone.
To this day I have NEVER bought fish fingers again - in 36 years...!
The "picture" of her face still haunts me...!!!
