Mum shares STUNNING upcycling project using supplies from Bunnings!

Lockdowns throughout the last two years seem to be all but endless, prompting most of us to distract ourselves with new hobbies. One pastime that seemed to grow rapidly in popularity over this period is upcycling.

Whether the goal is to refurbish an old piece of furniture or repurpose old clothing, upcycling has a lot of benefits such as reducing weekly costs and wastage.

So, when NSW mum Rachelle Drew saw the finished projects of other people on social media, she immediately gave upcycling a go!

"Decided to try my hand at upcycling. All painting and sanding products from my local Bunnings," she wrote on the Bunnings Mums, Inspiration, Hacks, Tips and Tricks Facebook page.

Rachelle has gone viral after she shared photos of the stunning transformation of her bedside table using materials from her local Bunnings store.

The mum-of-two confessed that she is actually new to upcycling and that she turned to the internet to look for tips on how to be successful at it.

"I actually googled it and then purchased everything from Bunnings; I think the majority of my wage is spent there," Rachelle joked.

The savvy mum said that she only used the "rust-oleum primer, linen white paint, and sealer" to transform her old bedside table into a posh-looking piece of furniture.

She said: "I was more than happy with the coverage, colours and process."

Rachelle also emphasised that she only learned the craft through trial and error.

"I started with a brush, however, I found I achieved a better coverage and result with a small sponge roller," the mum said.

The post was met with praise from other upcycling enthusiasts, with many saying that she had made her bedside table "much better".

One person wrote: "Great job. It looks awesome!"

"What a difference," another quipped.

When asked what prompted the mum-of-two to start upcycling, she admitted: "I was inspired by seeing so many others post their projects."

"My partner is a shift worker, so I thought, when I have some downtime, I might give it a go!"

The mum also shared some of the upcycling projects she's working on, including a cupboard her son made when he was in high school.

"I haven't done a lot of projects yet," she said.

"I have, however, completed a makeover on some chairs and a table I spotted on a Facebook site for free!"

"I updated a cupboard my son made when he was in high school on the weekend."

We think it's safe to say that Rachelle is enjoying her new hobby, and the results she is achieving speak for themselves.

I so admire all these people that can make something out of nothing or have the vision of what something could become. I don't have a creative bone in my body and lately it seems I don't have the inclination to put myself through the torture that is self expression either.:)

Sorry but I do much prefer the original colouring as it is a lovely natural look compared to the light new look.
