The cost of living keeps rising, which means most of us have to stick to tight budgets when we go grocery shopping.
With rent, utilities, and gas prices all climbing, we're all trying to find clever ways to make our hard-earned money go further.
The good news is that if you're an ALDI shopper, there's now an affordable meal option perfect for those days when you don't want to spend too much time in the kitchen!
Recently, a devoted ALDI fan shared a post on social media about her amazing discovery: a satisfying and easy-to-make meal that costs less than $7 per serving!
Using just three ingredients, the shopper whipped up a hearty meal by combining The Soup Co's Beef Pho Soup packet, bok choy, and some pork dumplings.
'Quite possibly the best meal I have ever had for $7,' the ALDI fan wrote.
'I used a quarter of the $8 bag of dumplings and added chilli oil and coriander from the fridge. Delicious!'
She found all these ingredients at her local ALDI store, including the $3.29 soup, the $7.99 dumplings, and the $1.29 bok choy.
ALDI’s soup range is a limited-time grocery item in three flavours: Coconut and Lentil, Beef Pho, and Laksa.
So, how did she prepare the meal? The mum mentioned that she began by cooking each ingredient separately.
First, she cooked the soup according to package instructions. She used a different pot for the dumplings. Then, she blanched the bok choy in boiling water and transferred it to a bowl before adding the dumplings. And that's all there was to it! Although she initially made it for one person, she mentioned that the portion was quite generous and could satisfy an entire family. She also happily noted that even her two young children enjoyed it!
On the mum’s post on social media, several others who had experimented with the ALDI soup and dumpling combination shared their unique twists.
One home cook recommended, ‘I add bok choy or spinach leaves, a handful of seafood marinara mix (frozen from ALDI), and a dash of soy sauce, stretching it a little further for two. I boiled the marinara separately and added that water to the soup as well.’
They also noted, ‘You can tweak it with any sauces or spices you like… We love it. Turns it into a meal.’
Others chimed in with suggestions to make the meal heartier. Some proposed including a bag of Thai salad vegetables, rice, thick rice noodles, and a flavourful broth infused with garlic, chilli, and ginger.
Members, whether you're cooking for yourself or the whole family and you're on the lookout for a delicious, budget-friendly, and easy dinner option, why not give this recipe a shot?
