Mum faces criticism from HUNDREDS of users over her ‘unnecessary’ bathroom decor - “The decor makes no sense to me…”

There’s definitely no shortage of home decor ideas online that’ll inspire you to kickstart a home makeover project of your own – but, well let's just say, some ideas aren’t as well-received as others…

One mum sparked a heated debate between members of a popular Facebook group after sharing a photo of her ‘over-the-top’ guest bathroom, complete with four flower vases, a basket of complimentary products, and pebbles in the sink.

“Do you think this is too much for a bathroom?” she captioned her post, continuing with: “My husband and I have an ensuite. Nobody uses this room at all.”

Thousands of fellow members flocked to the comments to share their varying opinions of the mum’s decor, with many pointing out how impractical and excessive it is.

“Yes, definitely far too much! Too cluttered.” one user commented.

“I would just have the flowers… The vanity is too small for so much stuff.” chimed another.

The majority disliked the pebbles in the sink the most out of all the features in the mum’s guest bathroom.

“Looks like snails in your sink! Put the rocks back in the garden. Only keep the flowers and the basket in my opinion!” one user criticised.

“The rocks in the sink make no sense to me and it’s a bit cluttered for my taste. I’d take it all away and just put the towel and the soap dispensers there but I prefer a more minimalist look.” said another.

“I think it looks pretty, but I'm very confused about the pebbles in the sink.” wrote a third.

“I don’t understand why there are rocks in the sink? They’d be breeding bacteria…” warned a fourth.

“Oh and please take out the rocks from the sink – looks like you’re rinsing fish tank rocks.” another teased.

However, a few users defended the mum in the comments, with one informing others of the particular reason why some people decide to add rocks to their sink: “Rocks in the sink are a feng shui thing. It protects you from energy-draining – for anyone who wants to know.”

“All the negative comments are making me sad! I think switching them to white would work nicely with the colour scheme you have. I love all the pinks. I would take the basket as well as some vases away and think it would look lovely.” wrote another.

“I'm going to go against the rest and advise you to keep the pebbles! ‘Zen vibes’ at its finest. If you like them, KEEP them. I'm sure none of the people who disagreed will be coming to your home anyway.” argued a third.

Due to the heavy criticism, the mum ended up turning off the ability for others to leave any further comments on her post.

Whatever floats her boat, especially since the bathroom is hardly ever used. I must admit that I'd be mightily confused to enter my host's bathroom and find pebbles in the basin ... am I allowed to brush my teeth and spit on them?

Less is more - especially in bathrooms! Because they are a place for cleaning ourselves clutter simply is not compatible. For our guest bathroom we keep everything guests may need in 5 of the 6 drawers, leaving 1 drawer completely free for visitors to use. On the bench itself we have a small, decorative, but simple, basket containing a decoration (flowers or greenery depending on the season), a small decorative box of tissues, tiny individually wrapped guest soaps (handmade not commercial) and a nice smelling candle. The basket is positioned in front of a daylight sensor nightlight which means the display looks lovely both day & night - which guests always comment favourably upon 😁 I don't take credit for my styling though because I pinched the idea from wonderful places we stayed in South Africa many moons ago! It's better to have one eye catching thing than swamp a room with bits & pieces.

Do what makes you happy and damn everybody else, they don't live your life. However, if you do choose to splash your ideas all over the internet you'd better be prepared for some negative comments, there will always be those who take great pleasure in pulling others down.;)
