“Mimosa – For Anxiety, Depression, and Wound Healing”
The mimosa tree has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine for healing. And in Latin American Medicine from South America for healing many health challenges. Mimosa helps with anxiety, depression, insomnia, coughs, and it’s a great immune system booster. And mimosa bark works wonders for speeding up the healing of burns, rashes, and wound.
Mimosa Tree Flowers
Where it Grows – Mimosa Trees also known as Albizia julibrissin, powder puff tree, and silk tree grows in 3/4 of the US states and will grow in zones 6 to 10. They are found in California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Washington, Oregon, Tennessee, Carolinas, Arkansas, Louisiana and many other states. And they also grow in Central America and South American and also in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia including China, India, and Korea. And mimosa trees can grow to be 40 feet tall and have beautiful pink and white flowers. And it’s a very fast growing tree and it needs very little attention. In fact more than likely a mimosa tree is growing in your neighborhood. Remember this is a tree, it’s not the same as the mimosa plant which grows flat to the ground.
Parts Used – The bark, flowers, leaves, seed pods, and the seed oils are commonly used for healing. Removed from the tree, dried, and ground into a powder the bark is great to have on hand at all times for healing.
Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Insomnia – Mimosa bark is commonly used for healing anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, and helps with mood swings. In China mimosa bark has been used for uplifting the spirit for thousands of years. Take 1- 400 mg capsule 3 times a day. And the flowers made into a tea works great for anxiety and depression. A study in 2002 in China found mimosa great for healing anxiety and insomnia.
Great for Wound Care – The Mayans loved mimosa tree bark and used it for over 1000 years for speeding up healing of large wounds and also for preventing infections of wounds… and it was even used for broken bones. The bark is roasted, ground, and then placed in sterile cloth and placed over the wound. Mimosa bark is also a good cleansing agent for wounds and helps to revitalize damage tissue. A powerful healing agent that most of us have around but take for granted. The bark also helps with skin pain because it has a local anesthetic like agent in the bark that keeps pain away for 3 or 4 hours because it contains natural steroid compounds.
Anti-Inflammatory – Mimosa bark is a very good anti-inflammatory agent for the whole body and it works wonders for inflamed skin.
Young Leaves are Edible – The young leaves of this tree are edible if cooked – another free food.
Stop Smoking – Mimosa bark can also curb nicotine cravings. Drinking the tea 3 or 4 times a day calms the cravings of a cigarette.
Cancer – Mimosa bark contains lots of cytotoxic agents that kill cancer cells… more studies to be done.
Stops Bleeding – Mimosa bark also stops bleeding, it’s a good healing agent to have around if a person cuts themselves. Dabbing on a little of the powder or tincture, which is full of tannins stops the bleeding and prevents infection.
Antibacterial – Mimosa bark kills strep, staph, and salmonella bacteria.
Oral Pain Reliever – Mimosa leaves can be made into a tea which can be used to gargle with which stops toothaches and oral mucosa irritations and pain.
Lots of Antioxidants – Mimosa bark is full of healthy oils that are very high in antioxidants which help to create healing and prevent DNA damage. Mimosa bark oils contains lots of linoleic acid, oleic acid, and palmitic acids.
Great for Allergies – Mimosa bark tea helps with allergies and hay fever. One cup of mimosa bark tea can help with hay fever for a full day.
Healthy Skin – Mimosa bark is also great for improving the youthful look of dry skin by revitalizing collagen and connective tissue. In fact mimosa bark and it’s extracts are commonly used in shampoos, cosmetics, soaps, and lotions. They contain hyaluronic acid and flavonoids for healing damaged skin.
Great for Burns – After a gas explosion in Mexico in 1984 thousands of people were burned and they needed a good inexpensive healing agent so they used mimosa bark and it worked great. With a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory capabilities mimosa bark powder works wonders for burns.
Immune Boosting Agent – With lots of great tannins, saponins, and flavonoids, mimosa bark can boost up a person’s immune system and keep them healthy.
Coughs and Lung Problems – Mimosa bark is also a good anti-inflammatory agent for the lungs and helps with bronchitis, asthma, and nagging coughs.
Spiritual Uplifting – In China mimosa bark is used for spiritual uplifting and cleansing. Mimosa makes the heart and mind a bit clearer and calmer.
Dose – The dose for tinctures is 2 to 6 mils daily. As a powder in capsules 1 – 400 mg capsule 3 times a day should be taken, and both should be take with meals. To make tea use a 1/2 teaspoon of fresh or dried bark, steeped in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes… take 3 or 4 times a day.
Forms – Mimosa bark comes in capsules, tinctures, extracts, and powders. And you can also pick your own flowers, bark, and leaves to make your own healing agents.
Finding – Ask for mimosa bark at your local health food store. And mimosa can also be found on-line, just google “Buy Mimosa Bark Capsules” and lots of places that sell mimosa will come up. And they also have mimosa on Amazon and Ebay.
Side Effects – To date there are really no side effects for mimosa. But as always mimosa should not be used by women who are pregnant, by nursing mothers, or small children.
