Meghan Markle pranks street vendors with Ellen DeGeneres
Meghan Markle has left the audience of the Ellen Degeneres Show in shock by sitting down for a surprise interview with the comedian.

The Duchess of Sussex shared a few laughs with the 63-year-old host as she sat down with Ellen, telling the audience about their friendship as neighbours in California.

Ellen shared, "Meghan's a great dancer."

The comedian started the interview with a seemingly awkward introduction of the estranged royal as 'the Duchess of Sussex' while promoting her children's book The Bench, to which Meghan let out a stifled giggle.

Here is a recap of everything that went down in the interview.

Meghan was not exempted from the show’s schtick of inviting their guests to participate in embarrassing skits. Besides, it wouldn’t be the Ellen DeGeneres show without them, right?

The host played a video of Meghan — which was taken earlier before the show aired — engaging in the show’s pranks, showing the comedian fitting an earpiece onto the Duchess' ear and giving her tasks to prank street vendors on the Warner Bros’ studio lot.

Meghan, who was not in disguise for the prank, first targeted a crystal stall. Ellen, who was speaking through the earpiece, urged Meghan to tell the vendor that she has "healing powers" while looking at the crystals on display.

"Good energy!" exclaimed Meghan as she hovered over the crystals.

Ellen then instructed Meghan to chant while holding one of the crystals against her head.

The Duchess' next target was a hotdog vendor, with Ellen asking the estranged royal to eat a tortilla chip "like a chipmunk".

Meghan screamed at the vendor: “Mummy wants some heat!”

The audience roared with laughter as Meghan obeyed the cringeworthy requests of the host.

The footage also showed Meghan performing squats on the sidewalk and casually drinking from a baby bottle in her handbag as vendors watched on with second-hand embarrassment.

Meghan gives rare insight into family life

After showing this embarrassing video, Ellen shifted the topic to Meghan’s family life with Prince Harry, to which the Duchess showed a never-before-seen photo of two-year-old Archie feeding chickens at their Montecito home.

This was exciting for audiences bearing in mind that the estranged royal couple have been extremely private about their children, maintaining their privacy by only posting photos of Archie from behind.

The couple has also notably not released any photos of their newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana, in public.

Meghan also told the host that she celebrated Halloween this year with her family, Archie dressing up as a dinosaur and Lilibet as a skunk, "like Flower from Bambi".

Meghan said, “We wanted to do something fun for the kids, and then the kids were just not into it at all."

Ellen, who celebrated Halloween with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, remarked that Archie took off the costume after wearing it for "not even five minutes".

Meghan also said that seeing Prince Harry be a father to their kids is "the most beautiful thing to watch".

The Duchess shared that Archie is being a good big brother to Lilibet despite the considerable adjustments in their family.

“I think it’s just, everyone tells you — well, someone told H and I, ‘When you have one kid it’s a hobby, and two children are parenting.'” said Meghan.

“Suddenly we realised, ‘Oh, right.’ Everyone talks about what it’s like for the second child, but no one talks about the adjustment for the first child when the second one comes along. So I think they have this moment of, ‘Oh, this is fun. Oh, this how it is now.’"

Meghan also revealed that Harry has told her that he "loves" living in the US despite living in the UK for most of his life.

She told Ellen, “He loves it.”

“We moved here during the lockdown, exactly when things shut down, so we’ve just been able to spend a lot of time at home and creating our home, but I think it’s just the lifestyle and the weather is pretty great. But we’re just happy.”

Meghan reveals wild night out with Harry

Meghan has also shared a 'wild night out' with Prince Harry back in 2016 when they disguised themselves in a Halloween party in Toronto with fellow royal Princess Eugenie and her now-husband, Jack Brooksbank.

“[Harry] came to see me in Toronto and our friends and his cousin Eugenie and now her husband Jack – they came as well,” she said.

“The four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple."

“It was a post-apocalypse theme so we had all of this very bizarre costuming on and we were able to just have one final fun night out."

It should be noted that the couple has not been public about their relationship until November 2016 when Prince Harry issued a press release expressing his concerns about the possible “abuse and harassment” of the press towards his new partner.

Meghan’s political push

Although Meghan and Ellen discussed light-hearted topics for most of the interview, however Meghan also took the opportunity to publicly talk about her advocacy of pushing for paid parental leave in the US.

“As a mum of two I will do everything that I can to make sure we can implement [paid family leave],” she said.

“People truly forget that or don’t even know it’s (the US) one of only six wealthy countries in the world that do not mandate and have a federal paid leave program.”

“I will do everything I can to make sure we can implement that for people.”

It was reported earlier this month that Meghan had been cold calling US politicians to pitch the advocacy to them.

Toward the end of the segment, Meghan surprised the audience even further by gifting audience member Brittany Starks $US20,000 for her non-profit, A Twist of Greatness — a non-profit which provides children with books and clothes.

Brittany was also notably providing free hair-braiding services to children in her Tennessee neighbourhood.

The interview closed with Meghan thanking the host for inviting her to the show.
