Meghan Markle mocks her royal protocol attempt with an exaggerated curtsey and describes ‘surreal’ meeting with the Queen

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's documentary has finally made its way to the screens courtesy of Netflix, amid the backlash it has received from the public.

In one scene, Meghan lifted the lid on what it was like to meet the Royal Family for the first time and spoke candidly about the 'intense' moment she met Queen Elizabeth II.

As we all know, royal protocol is a very important aspect of life for members of the monarchy. So, when American actress Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, she knew that she would have to make some adjustments to her lifestyle to conform to these long-standing rules and traditions.

In a new interview from the couple’s documentary series, Meghan mocked her attempts at following royal protocol when she first met the Queen – and described how ‘surreal’ the whole experience was.

Harry agreed and shared that when he took Meghan to meet the Queen, it was a bit of a ‘shock to the system’ for her.

‘I remember being in the car, and he was like “You know how to curtsey right?” and I just thought it was a joke,’ Meghan explained. The Duchess of Sussex jokingly compared the encounter to going to a ‘Medieval Times Dinner’, which is a themed restaurant in the US.

‘I curtsied as if I was [bowing down to the floor],’ Meghan said as she demonstrated an exaggerated curtsey in front of her amused husband.

Meghan met the Queen for the first time during a lunch at the Royal Lodge in Windsor shortly after it was revealed that she was dating Harry.

‘It was so intense, I didn’t know what I was doing,’ the Duchess admitted.

She added that she did not receive training on royal protocol and that joining the Royal Family was nothing like The Princess Diaries – an American coming-of-age movie about a student who discovers she is the heir to the throne of a fictional kingdom.

Harry also shared the difficulty in explaining their protocols to civilians: ‘How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you would need to curtsey, especially to an American. That’s weird.’

The new documentary is split into two parts, with the first three episodes out now and available to watch on Netflix.

Harry compared Meghan to his mum, the late Princess Diana, and described how both his mother and his wife were hunted by the press. The Duke also spoke about alleged racism and ‘unconscious bias’ in the Royal Family.

Meghan spoke about the ‘formality’ of the royals behind closed doors.

‘I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside,’ she said.

I agree it’s a bit formal in the privacy of the palace. In public places it’s essential. But she appreciated our so shut up and go away.

For goodness sake has everyone lost they're sense of humour? Meghan was being self depreciating laughing at herself. Absolutely normal. I would do the same. Has anyone ever tried to cursty? Just look at poor ex British PM Theresa trying to cursty to the Queen? Trash tabloids reinterpretating every freeze shot of the lovely enjoyable H&M Netflix doco.

Very sad so many pathetic nasty comments here. Typical of the brainwashed trolls followers if the toxic gutter British Tabloids and Murdoch gutter press. How are people so hatefilled? Stunningly beautiful couple. I'm totally LOVING the Netflix doco. Well done to Harry and Meghan' 👏👏👏

I am British and a

They should stop whingeing and grow up. There are millions of people in this world who would be very happy to change places with them - and happily accept all the problems that go with their privileged lives.
What's poor harry going to do when she finally chews him up and spits him out

I am British leaving UK re a similar situation from a toxic family so I can 100% relate to H&M.. Where on earth has the British sense of humour gone. ?? - Meghan was absolutely not mocking the Queen ffs !! She was laughing at her self ! Are people that stupid ? Get a grip people stop twisting every petty thing you vile people can. At least Meghan and Harry don't sponge off the British taxpayers like the rest of the RF ! But hey keep up your ridiculous campaign of hategasms!! - Meghan suffered abuse from your crap tripe filled gutter Media- and you're still doing it right on predictable Cue. Murdoch's gutter Media. -Not all abuse is physical, much of it is psychological. Coercive control was at stake here. She did everything to try and do what was expected of her, and @KensingtonRoyal still briefed against her.- This Netflix doco is an eye opener- The RF Mafia leaked lies to the toxic gutter British Tabloids which stirred up racist RWNJ's creating a dangerous situation for Meghan and her babies. Despicable
Even after knowing all this,-the RF kept leaking false stories about Meghan to tabloids.

In any family dynamics it's confronting to be ambushed by family especially from a brother you'd thought supported you + had promised not to let the toxic media destroy your family like it had their mother- then William lied to the media thr his palace media hacks. What brother & Father does that ? Harry was pretty much ambushed by C& W
What was revealed was shocking.
I've read in history in the past of this underhanded behaviour by Royals-intercepting private correspondence to discredit their target-
but now today- in the 21st century?
