McDonald’s new coffee was put to the test – find out if it’s worth it!

We all know that life is too short for bad coffee. It's something we can all agree on – whether it's a warm cup first thing in the morning or a little pick-me-up during the day, good coffee is something we all deserve.

Speaking of coffee, McDonald's has recently launched a new coffee called the Birthday Cake Latte, much to the delight of Macca’s fans across Australia. In fact, we wrote about it here.

But is it worth the hype? Let’s take a look at the reviews.

The new coffee concoction, created to celebrate 30 years of McCafé, is said to be made from Aussie coffee combined with ‘delicious cake flavours’.

The idea of combining coffee and cake certainly got everyone’s attention, and some people wanted to investigate if the new Birthday Cake Latte is worth trying.

One reviewer described their disappointment with the new drink, saying, ‘It tasted like a regular latte with too much sugar. Like drinking a caramel latte but without the caramel’.

The reviewer even claimed they were heartbroken that the flavour missed the mark, especially since they had high hopes for the coffee and cake combination.

Given that everyone has different taste preferences, the original reviewer decided to conduct a little experiment with their co-workers to see if others shared the same opinion.

They poured a standard McDonald's coffee and a Birthday Cake Latte for their co-workers and asked them to identify any differences between the two.

While all three participants were able to identify the Birthday Cake Latte, they all agreed that it didn't taste like birthday cake.

Was it really as disappointing as the original review suggests, or could it be a surprise guilty pleasure for some?

Whatever the opinions, it seems that the consensus around the highly-anticipated birthday cake flavour seemed to be lost in the sugary mess, leaving us puzzled as to what the fuss was all about.

While some may find this latte a bit too sweet for their liking, we do acknowledge that taste is subjective, and what doesn't work for one person may be just right for someone else.

So, if you're keen to try something new or have a sweet tooth that needs satisfying, the Birthday Cake Latte might be worth a shot – as long as you're willing to manage your expectations.

It wasn’t too long ago when the new flavour was announced on social media.

Thirty years ago, the very first McCafé opened its doors in Melbourne, and since then, it has become a beloved feature in McDonald's restaurants around the globe.

With over 1,000 McCafé locations in Australia alone and more than 4,000 in 60 countries worldwide, everyone can agree that it's an Aussie success story.

And to commemorate this impressive achievement, Macca’s Australia decided to offer a limited-time drink: the Birthday Cake Latte. You can read more details about this story here.

Nice to know but I don’t think I will venture to try this sweet-laden latte at my age. 🥹

Don’t think you should ever mess with coffee!!!! It is hard to get a really good coffee in various places and the thought of mixing it up with stupid flavors is the pits!!!

I got the offer of “a free cup of my favourite coffee”, to celebrate 30 years of McCafe, then I was charged 70 cents for the caramel flavouring. I emailed feedback at McDonalds and asked why my “free favourite coffee”, cost me 70 cents, but obviously I don’t expect a response.

I tried the new coffee and didn’t like the flavour. And paid $7.10 for it. Very disappointed. Won’t try it again.
