Mazda triggers more than 5,000 urgent vehicle recalls due to potentially lethal issues

The automotive industry is facing another challenge as Mazda announced an urgent recall of its CX-60 and CX-90 models in Australia.

This recall, affecting over 5,000 vehicles, comes in response to a potentially lethal manufacturing issue.

The defect in question lies within the power-steering gear set of the 2024 Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 models.

This flaw could lead to an unexpected increase in steering effort while driving, which could significantly heighten the risk of an accident.

Such an accident could result in severe injury or even death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts has identified 5,257 vehicles of these specific models registered on Australian roads.

You may check the list of Vehicle Identification Numbers affected by the recall here.

Mazda has committed to contacting all affected vehicle owners directly.

The car manufacturer has chosen to address the issue by offering free mechanical work at official dealerships to fix the defect rather than issuing refunds.

You may contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411 or at [email protected] for more information.

If you're one of these owners, it's crucial to take this recall seriously. The risk is real, and the consequences could be dire.

In similar news, Ford Australia has issued an urgent recall for 443 of its F-150 ute, citing a potentially fatal defect that could result in a loss of steering control.

The affected vehicles are locally remanufactured models produced between 2022 and 2023.

If you own one of these vehicles, Ford advises you to stop driving immediately and contact them to organise a free inspection and repair.

What's wrong with car manufacturers?Every couple of weeks there are modern cars with defects that mean they have to get recalled and fixed at the company's expense. It makes the Leyland P76 look like it was the perfect car for Australia, other than not being a Holden or Ford.

I'm glad I bought a new Hyundai Venue Elite , just perfect... great ride and soaks up the bumps. There are 3 driving modes - Economy - Normal - Sports modes , plus I can lock the differential up for sand or snow, or for 2 or 3 other traction modes.

Modern cars now just have way too many parts plus too many electrical and electronic sensers etc. Many of All cars parts are now NOT Made by the car manufacturer , but by other manufacturers . Years ago , most parts were made by the car manufacturer apart from Electrical parts , brakes and clutches , Fuel injection & fuel pumps etc but now there are many of these Companies designing and making parts for cars. Now the parts are being to extreme tolerances that car parts were NOT years ago. Plus there are just so many electronic items in every car, and if something goes wrong in manufacture then all the parts made will have this problem, and it can be a very small thing like a clip holding a fuel or brake hose is in the incorrect position... NO Car company likes these callbacks which costs them MONEY... Now the P76 was car of the year and could have been a great car except the maker was having major problems in the factory until they went bankrupt.. Now New cars have thousands of items more than the P76... and are much more complicated... No ABS brakes etc NO seat belt tightners [which are explosive ] No air bags... just to name a few.

I think owners can be thankful this was caught so soon with a new model.

"The car manufacturer .................. free mechanical work............. instead of issuing a refund".

I HOPE THE MANUFACTURER HAD NO INTENTION OF CHARGING CUSTOMERS FOR RECTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER'S FAULT!

WHAT IS THE REFUND REFERRED TO?

Car companies cannot offer cash instead of fixing the repair as recalls are usually to fix a problem that has occurred whilst making a vehicle.. so it HAS to fix the problem especially these days as virtually any little problem can lead to the vehicle stopping or not being able to stop or steer etc... so Dangerous.. Because the tolerances in vehicles parts are very small , problems occur... Also as many parts are made to these strict tolerances , many parts can be made exactly the same , [sometimes incorrectly fitted] which causes the problem. Also everything that is done to a vehicle whilst its being made, is recorded on computers, once a problem has been found , they can check to see how many were made that way... and its never just 1 or 2 but thousands usually... like having a bracket holding a hose the incorrect way may be found by a mechanic servicing the vehicle , so, by then thousands have been made.. plus the problem hasn't caused any faults, but the cause has been found and remedied [fixed] without using any new parts.. 68autobug

Yes, too complicated. I recall my former Ford Foulcan of some 40 years ago. I could sit in the engine bay and fix things although the gearbox's central thrust washer was pathetic (it was a circlip of some sort). However, I was still ale to remove the gearbox with the car parked by the roadside and without removing the engine. I have done the same with a Wolseley 1500 front-wheel drive car. Modern cars? Horrible to contemplate having to fix them! Electric cars could be ideal except they too are being made too complicated; who needs all that electronic garbage?
