Staying socially active and engaged is vital at any age, but for older Aussies, it can be the key to a fulfilling and vibrant life.
Each year, a special event encourages seniors to step out, try new experiences, and celebrate their place in the community.
With a packed schedule of activities, entertainment, and opportunities to connect, this year's program promises to be bigger than ever.
Wollongong Council’s 2025 Seniors Festival will run from 3 to 16 March.
It will offer a diverse range of activities designed to inspire creativity, connection, and lifelong learning for those aged 55 and over.
Part of the NSW Seniors Festival—the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere—it will recognise the invaluable contributions of older Australians.

More than 500,000 people are expected to participate across the state.
The program will feature over 85 events, most of them free.
Activities will include guided buggy tours through the Botanic Garden, exercise classes, health assessments, educational workshops, and the much-anticipated Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance.
Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown highlighted the significance of the festival, saying: ‘The way our program has grown in recent times tells you how keenly anticipated the Seniors Festival is each year.’
She encouraged participation, adding: ‘As people get older it can be harder to maintain connections to community and the Festival is a great way for seniors to get out and try something new, spend time with friends, perhaps make a few new ones, and just have fun.’
She also noted that the festival serves as both a celebration and a way to acknowledge the contributions of older residents.
A wide variety of events will ensure there is something for everyone.
The program will be available on the Council’s website, with tickets for the Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance set to go on sale closer to the event date.
