Man captures a rare phenomenon!
While casually scrolling through my phone, I stumbled upon a clip about a user's ‘eerie’ encounter that garnered a whopping 5.2 million views! He noticed a tree’s shadow on the wall of his new home, but his curtains were closed… While trying to make sense of it, he attempted to take a photo, only to have an image of a car whiz by on the same wall! A few more minutes later, he flipped the camera and was presented with a full visual of his neighbours. What in the world is happening here?
After a bit of digging in the comments section, I was relieved to find that it's nowhere near a poltergeist case or a sign that extraterrestrial beings have taken over our planet—there's actually a scientific explanation behind it! Turns out, this rare phenomenon is linked to a centuries-old wonder known as the 'camera obscura', also known as the pinhole effect. Back in the 13th century, the pinhole effect was used to observe solar eclipses safely.
When it’s bright outside, light enters through a tiny hole and projects an upside-down image of the outside world onto the wall that's opposite the hole. So, there you have it, dear curious minds! I hope you enjoyed learning this new fact today. Have you ever seen a camera obscura in full swing?
