This is the iconic front entrance to Luna Park in Sydney. The face has been changed several times since it was first installed during the 1930s. I took this photo around the year 2000.
I wonder how many people have walked through this mouth over the years to enjoy hours of fun.
Who can forget the "Rotar" where u got in and backed up against the wall as the room spun and spun and they would drop the floor and everyone would be stuck to the walls until the slowed the ride down and everyone would slide down the walls to the floor below ...those poor innocent girls with dresses on always had a hard time as they slide down the wall
Yes I definitely remember the Rotor as well. The ghost train and Coney Island was a favourite with all of the different activities going on inside.
Although I have to say some of those twisting tumbling rides made me sick on the stomach. Especially after eating a few meat pies or hotdogs!
Arcade Alley......rolling balls trying to knock skittles over.....shooting slug guns at moving ducks....throwing darts at score board....popping table tennis balls into moving clown heads....testing your power hitting a punching ball...throwing soft balls at a hole in a scoreboard....spending a lot and walking away with a small stuffed toy, if you were lucky....loads of fun and laughs.
I went to Luna Park in Melbourne in the 50's. I had a great time.
It opened on 13 December 1912, with a formal opening a week later, and has been operating almost continuously ever since. Wikipedia
