Karl Stefanovic, one of Australia's most well-known TV personalities, has been in the public eye for quite some time now, thanks to his many years spent hosting Channel 9's Today show.
But the TV show presenter found himself in the spotlight again when his recent real estate move scored him a huge profit.
Despite being chided as a ‘boofhead’ by his colleagues at Channel 9, it turns out that two-time Gold Logie-award-winning host Karl Stefanovic knows his way around the real estate market.
Just last week, Karl and his wife Jasmine listed their four-bedroom north shore home for rent. The Stefanovics’ Castlecrag home sat on the market for five days before it was snapped up for $1,850 a week – a third more than the median $1,400 rent in Castlecrag.
While that might not seem impressive at first glance, the average time spent on the market for rental homes in Castlecrag is 32 days. This means that aside from earning rent for a few extra weeks, he also claimed an additional $50 per week.
This comes with an impressive yield of nearly 6 per cent, higher than the suburb’s average of 1.8 per cent – and well, you do the maths, folks!
Last year’s property records revealed that the Stefanovics bought the north shore home for $3.2 million in March 2021, it was also rented out at $1,800 a week!
The house’s marketing brief at the time read: ‘Embraced by the tranquillity of verdant surrounds, this full brick home provides an oasis of natural light, privacy and space for relaxation.’
It also promoted an ‘outlook over Castlecrag Northern Escarpment’, and the property is within walking distance of several shops and cafés.
The layout of the home is surrounded by natural lighting and provides multiple indoor and outdoor living areas. The kitchen has a gas stove and is decorated with Miele appliances, there’s a private rear courtyard that has a water feature adjoining the dining area. It also has a native oasis with a gazebo, private spa, and skyline views.
The house includes a self-contained studio with a bathroom and separate entry. The Stefanovic’s also own a $3.5 million property on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, which they initially purchased just before the country entered lockdown in 2020.
