‘I’m Louie, the fly, Louie the fly, straight from the…’ I’m pretty sure you just filled in the blanks, didn’t you? For decades, this buzzing sensation has graced our radios and TVs, captivating both young and old with his catchy jingle. Since his debut on the small screen in 1957, Louie the Fly has become one of the most iconic characters in Australian advertising. This cartoon insect tirelessly flew (and died) to promote the renowned pest control brand Mortein. Louie’s impact on our culture was so immense that the iconic jingle ‘Louie, the Fly’ was officially added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia registry. Do you have any fond memories of Louie the Fly?

Good advert.My mother and I watched it but she would just put her hand out to catch flies and moths.I thought yuck how can you do that.

I think the original Louie the Fly ad was much better than the latest version currently being shown. It was catchy and made you remember the product being advertised. Not all new things in life are better - even with better colours, graphics etc.
