Lose weight before Christmas with Aussie dietitian Leanne Ward’s method!

We all want to enjoy the festive season without the added stress of weight gain, but with the time of year almost upon us, it can be hard to find the right way to shed a few kilos.

However, we’re here to tell you that it’s not too late to get ready for Christmas in style!

According to Brisbane-based dietitian Leanne Ward, anyone looking to lose some weight before Santa comes to town can make small changes to their diet and lifestyle that, if implemented correctly, could make a world of difference.

‘If you want to lose weight before Christmas, here are the things I recommend as an expert in healthy and sustainable fat loss,’ Ward said.

To get started, Leanne suggested planning all your meals in advance.

'What derails most people’s fat loss attempts is making spur-of-the-moment nutrition choices negatively influenced by friends, family or colleagues,' Leanne said.
She suggests that meal prep before each day of the week is the key to success—'If not, know what your meals will be each day so you’re not spending additional mental energy thinking about them and then just saying, “I’ll eat whatever because I’m tired or can’t be bothered cooking.”'

Ward, also known as The Fitness Dietitian on social media, said you increase protein and vegetables at each meal.

'95 per cent of the population don’t eat enough vegetables,' the nutrition expert said.

‘Healthy adults should have more than five servings of veggies a day—that’s at least two-and-a-half cups of cooked vegetables or five cups of salad,’ she said.

On top of that, Leanne advised to ensure every meal has ideally 20 to 40g of protein in it.

Finally, Leanne suggested having a buffer during your weekend.

'To achieve fat loss you don’t have to be “perfect” or 100 per cent “clean” with your choices,' said Leanne.

‘But if you have heavier food and alcohol on the weekends, you need to buffer this with lighter days during the week.’

'Too many people don’t, so they don’t achieve the fat loss they desire,’ she added.

We all know that planning for the festive season ahead can be a valuable tool to avoid overconsumption (of food or drinks!) as well as added worry—but if a few extra kilos are still hanging around at the end of the year, Leanne’s sustainable, adaptable approach might be just the thing to give you a helping hand.

All in all, Leanne’s tips should provide the perfect platform for long-term success, with foods you actually want to choose, time to flexibly indulge on the weekends and, above all, the encouragement to make a plan and stick to it!

The take-home message here is that being healthier and ensuring a sustainable weight loss approach can be an easy process—and no matter your age or stage in life, losing weight doesn’t have to be an arduous task.
