Lack of availability for Services within the CHSP

Hi there
I'm not sure if this is the right platform to air this problem, but here goes .-
My name is Chris and I am the caregiver for my husband John who is currently on the wait list to receive a level 3 HCP
While waiting he has (along with myself) multiple codes under the CHSP, of which some have been taken up by providers.
Recently a need arose for an urgent home maintenance, under a certain provider who had in the past 5 years been providing this service under my CHSP code.
When I called, I was told this was no longer available as there was no funding and they didn't know if they were going to get any in the near future.. This was such a shock to me as there had been no warning or notification that this was happening, and I asked to have my code released so I could try and find another Provider to take up the code.
  1. Big mistake to have released the code. I rang the same organization some weeks later ( under advice from My Aged Care to ring around a number of providers who may be able to assist us) and was told they were at capacity, not that they had no funding.
  2. No one seems able/willing to take up a code under the CHSP and I get told there is a "New" system coming and wait till the new year or self fund the repairs needed.
I have seen nothing publicized about this dire situation within the aged care community and was wondering/hoping I could get some clarity or insight into what is going on with aged care services and how to navigate what to do.

Should I self fund my home Maintenace issue and send a bill to the Federal Government /Centrelink

Sorry for my frustrated rant but getting a little desperate for answers

You need a good plan. You need to land in hospital with “chest pain “, and then they will take you seriously. Refuse to leave the hospital, and demand to see a social worker, who will help sort out the mess you are clearly in. I’m a medical professional, and know the system. You will have to stick with the chest pain plan, and they will figure out that the stress is causing health problems for you. You will need to call an ambulance, to back up the chest pain. They have to take you to hospital, but I am afraid this is how the system works. The chest pain, needs to be described as a crushing heavy type of pain. Drastic, yes. They will take notice this time. Good luck, and be strong and you will beat the system. As long as you are at home, nothing will change. Jenny.

that is what i call lying.

Sorry you disagree. This woman is desperate, and needs help. She is probably in Victoria, the Bankrupt State. If she doesn’t do something now, Christmas will come and go, and then by February, action might happen.

This is a disgusting situation where someone needs help and is desperate to find that help. You would think in Australia in 2024 that this would not be happening. How many years have successive governments known that the population is ageing and more assistance would be needed. Now they seem to almost be surprised that the budget for Aged care needs to be much bigger. As an older person with a husband with a lifelong disability it feels like you are just a nuisance. Thank God we can advocate for ourselves - some people cannot.

I don’t think I would tempt fate using this pretence

Again I am responding. The doctors in the hospital have a legal “duty of care “, to assist this poor lady, who deserves help. You need to kick and scream almost, until you are heard. This lovely lady, is sitting at home, on the phone, using up her mobile minutes, and she is getting nowhere fast! Take advice, get to a hospital, where the doctors have to invoke, the legal duty of care. Some seniors are treated like silly old fools, and they will keep fobbing off this lady, until she gets to a hospital. Best wishes for her. Gez.

how do you know all these facts? ever heard of scams.

how do you know all these facts? ever heard of scams.
People have suggested on many occasions that I should fake and exaggerate too... they are already accusing me of this - so how would it be possible to fake it anyway!?
I honestly do not have it in me to do that - never have and never will!
YES, I'm suffering the consequences but my conscience is clear!

You can take action, or sit and sulk. I had to take action and intervene for my alderly Mother, for her safety. We are in Qld, and the system is not great. We had to push hard to protect her, and the doctor did the correct thing, and protected her, because it’s the law. I sleep better at night, but it’s not easy to push hard for what is a patient’s right to feel safe and protected. Small things around the house, can be dangerous. At first after the doctor’s intervention, an occupational therapist visited her home to assess risky issues. The smallest thing, can be dangerously dangerous. As I mentioned, you have to understand the system, and push for your rights. Good luck 🤞.

I am 87 years old and BLIND not vision impaired . I am on level 2 home care package when you would say I was vision impaired. Every 3 weeks I used to have eye injections for macula degeneration ,which we’re doing nothing . I have an pacemaker ,went for checkup with heart specialist . He told me I was wasting my money and their time as the blood was not getting to my eyes and only matter of time I will be blind . Days vary some mornings I get up and can’t even see my face in the mirror ! have been on phone to My home care some days for 2 hours at a time. I paid $5250 for magnifying glass that if I cannot see to read anything it will read it to me . The chap from vision Australia said if I were on a higher level which I shoul be it would have been paid for ,and to ring my home care once a fortnight . My GP has written plus the heart specialist and you have no idea the excuses I get . l was given CHSP number haven’t worked out whom they are, where they are,or what they do . Get 1 and half our cleaning every 2 weeks . CHSP were arranging for me to get cleaning xtra 8 weeks until someone rings and gives me an assessment on the ph. l was given the number of Older Persons Advocasy spoke to lovely caring lady whom is coming to my home and assess what I need and will speak on my behalf . At least he has pushed them in ti a date I will be assessed first week in new year . They wouldn’t tell me that My advice to you is get in touch with Older Persons Advocasy . There is one in each state.

I believe this country would go down the gurgler if not for volunteers. These are the only people who seem to care about anyone these days. The government always come up with an excuse not to act when someone needs any serious help.

The government is so irresponsible, I don’t know how they sleep at night. They treat the elderly, like a thorn in their side. I know the system, and it stinks. They try to make it hard to get help, hoping that you’ll just give up. Most do. The NDIS is useless too. It’s broke. The government spends more on the NDIS annually, than the whole of Medicare for Australia. It’s a disgrace. The problem is, the NDIS was established with the best of intentions. Now, so many people are scamming the system, the taxpayers are paying for corruption in the system. It’s a disaster. Who is going to help this poor lady? I wish I could hold her hand, and be there for her. If she doesn’t have close family support, she is a goner. Sadly, the “lucky country “, isn’t so lucky. I wish this poor lady all the best. I hope that someone can fight for her. I get really upset, when I hear how some of the elderly are treated. It’s heartbreaking 💔.

So your 'professional' advice is to use (abuse) resources that are already stretched to the limit and perhaps stop someone in a real medical emergency getting an ambulance or hospital bed?

What I am trying say, is get to a hospital for help, and demand your rights as a patient, to be seen and treated, and obtain help that is available. This woman is clearly distressed, and I had to get my 88 year old mother to hospital, where she was admitted and treated, and got her home assessed for dangerous issues around her apartment. I would do it again, but she has died now. That might make you happy, but obviously nobody is willing to help this poor woman, who is clearly distressed. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, and I would fight again for my beloved mother. I wish I could help this lady too. That’s how the system works, and unless you know the loopholes, you will never get help. You’re obviously smart, and judgemental, so put your money where your mouth is, and think of a better solution.Yes, chest pain was wrong for me to suggest, but if she doesn’t get help, it will be legitimate chest pain. So, that’s my opinion. Wake up to yourself, and you might have a better solution. I hope morons like y, sleep well at night. Why do you think the politicians Bragg about only using our fabulous Healthcare system, to go to a public hospital! Do you really think they wait in the waiting room triage for 6 hours to get treatment? I don’t think so.
