A horrific early morning crash involving a luxury car has left a well-known radio personality reeling.
The driver behind the wheel of the wrecked vehicle was someone deeply trusted—his personal chauffeur.
Now, Kyle Sandilands has spoken publicly for the first time about the man he calls the ‘greatest employee ever’.
The shock jock shared the harrowing details on KIIS FM’s *Kyle & Jackie O show, revealing that his driver George Plassaras was seriously injured in the crash.
Sandilands said the incident took place around 3:30 am on Saturday in Rose Bay, a wealthy eastern suburb of Sydney.
The crash involved a head-on collision between a Mercedes, driven by 52-year-old Mr Plassaras, and a Rolls-Royce allegedly driven by a 23-year-old woman.
According to Sandilands, his chauffeur’s injuries were extensive—broken ribs, a broken spine, a ruptured spleen and diaphragm, a torn abdomen, two broken hips, and both femurs fractured.
‘You may have seen over the weekend, it was all over the news, a head-on collision in Rose Bay in Sydney with a Rolls-Royce and a Mercedes,’ Sandilands told listeners.
‘Well, that was my driver, George.’
Photos from the scene showed debris from both vehicles scattered across New South Head Road as emergency services responded.
Mr Plassaras was reportedly trapped inside his vehicle for over an hour before being rescued and rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Despite his condition, Sandilands described a moment of extraordinary loyalty.
‘What did [he] say when he was taken away in the ambulance? He asked for his mobile phone so he could do what?’
‘This is a guy at 4:30 in the morning after he has been cut out of his vehicle, he’s been trapped in his van for an hour, this poor bloke.
And he asks the ambo: “Get my phone so I can make sure Kyle’s all right for the week.”’
The woman behind the wheel of the Tiffany Blue Rolls-Royce was not injured.
NSW Police said she underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.
She was then arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station, where she allegedly refused to undergo a breath analysis.
Authorities charged her with causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, and with refusing or failing to submit to a breath analysis.
She was granted conditional bail and is expected to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on 15 August.
Sandilands has since thanked Mr Plassaras publicly, calling him the ‘greatest employee ever’ and expressing deep admiration for his courage and dedication.
Crashes like the one that injured Kyle Sandilands’ driver are a stark reminder of how quickly things can go wrong on the road—even when you’re doing everything right.
While individual stories are heartbreaking, the bigger picture reveals a system struggling to keep people safe behind the wheel.
If you're wondering just how serious the road safety crisis has become, this next story puts it into sharp focus.
