Starting with the facial serums, Jayde focused her attention on a trio of products that are all infused with hyaluronic acid. According to her, hyaluronic acid helps retain and lock in moisture within the skin’s barrier and encourages a ‘healthy glow’.
However, Jayde has some reservations about Kmart's Niacinamide Serum, which retails for $6 for a 30ml bottle.
Her concern lies with the serum containing only 3 per cent niacinamide, which she believes may not be as effective as other options on the market.
‘I see a massive problem with this. Based on clinical medical data, niacinamide is most valuable at four per cent. In some cosmetics, it goes up to 10 per cent,’ she explained.
‘What's three per cent going to do?’
However, she did state that it would be ‘nice and hydrating’ for someone starting out their skincare routine.
Moving on to Kmart's 2 per cent Salicylic Acid Serum (also priced at $6 for a 30ml bottle), Jayde gives it her stamp of approval.
She praised the product, stating that the concentration of salicylic acid was 'well studied' and, therefore, likely to be effective. Additionally, she appreciates that Kmart's beauty products are often water-based and contain hyaluronic acid for added hydration.
‘I'm seeing a common theme. These ingredients are water-based. They also have hyaluronic acid in there, which we need to hydrate,’ she claimed.
However, Jayde isn't so keen on Kmart's 1 per cent Retinol Serum (which also costs $6 for a 30ml bottle) and strongly advised against using it.
She emphasised the importance of investing in a high-quality retinol product, explaining, 'When I take someone off a cheap retinol and get them onto a good one or even a prescription one, you see the changes’. She also strongly advises against buying cheap retinol to avoid skin complications.
