Kmart shopper discovers 'disgusting' item at the store: 'I was mortified'

Kmart is a stalwart of the Australian shopping landscape and a go-to for shoppers on the hunt for bargain prices and a fun range of goods.

But an incident in one store has shocked shoppers, leaving them calling for the retailer to rethink entirely one of its policies.

Recently, a woman named Belinda took to social media to share a photo of an item she had found in the retailer’s Rosny, Tasmania store.

She had been browsing the women’s clothing section when she came across a pair of pyjama bottoms on sale for a discounted price of $3, reduced from $6.

The garment appears to have a large, dark-red stain near the crotch, and Belinda had even turned it inside out to show that the stain was on both sides.

A form meant for ‘Soiled/Damaged/Faulty Merchandise’ was attached to the item, stating the reason for the markdown as ‘Stain on front centre'.

‘Mortified by this for sale in our local Kmart,’ Belinda wrote.

The post has racked up nearly 800 reactions and 400 comments, with fellow shoppers equally disgusted at the find, with many pointing out that Kmart was selling what appeared to be a soiled item.

'That’s either lazy, greedy or st***d', one person commented.

'Do they really need that $3?' questioned another.

‘So disgusting and unhygienic,’ a user remarked.

Other social media users focused on speculation about what happened to cause the stain– with suggestions including drinks and even bodily fluids.

‘Looks like someone spilt something on it while browsing,’ one commenter suggested. ‘Maybe hot chocolate.’

‘Some kind of red soft drink, perhaps? Or a Slurpee?’ posed another.

A person pointed out, ‘The colour...the positioning, someone's definitely had an accident.’

‘I reckon someone's had some leakage, so ditched the pants in the changerooms,’ a third person guessed.

Kmart quickly responded to the post, with a spokesperson telling a news source: 'Clearly, the item in the picture should not be on sale. We are looking into how this took place, as selling an item in this state is against our store procedures and standards at Kmart'.

Eeeeeeew🙀

Why does everything have to go on social media, it may have nothing to with the store! Just alert the staff and move on with your day.
