Driving under the influence is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Not only are you putting yourself at risk, but you're also putting other people on the road in danger.
And while we're all used to seeing celebrities in the headlines, when they're caught driving under the influence, it's a whole different story. It's a story that can ruin their careers and reputation.
Such has been the case for radio host Kate Richie who was fined $600 and given a three-month driving ban after she was caught driving under the influence.
After being pulled over in Sydney's east on Monday afternoon, where she allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.06 at Maroubra Police Station, the 44-year-old actress said she made a 'poor decision' and is 'truly sorry’ for her actions.
'Recently I undertook a random breath test. Although it was a low level, the test came back positive,' she wrote on an Instagram post, where she addressed the indecent behaviour and apologised to the public.
'I made a poor decision and there is no doubt I understand the seriousness of my actions.'
'I am truly sorry.'
Despite rumours that Ritchie may lose her job at the famous NovaFM drive show Kate, Tim & Joel, a network representative confirmed that Ritchie will be returning to the programme in a few weeks, adding that the management chose not to announce their lineup for 2023 at this time because talks are still going on.
The spokesperson explained: 'As you can appreciate, Nova Entertainment does not comment on personal matters relating to any of our employees. Kate has made a statement on her socials in relation to the matter.'
'Whilst we don’t usually comment on this type of unfounded speculation, or confirm our presenter lineup for 2023, we have no plans for any changes to the Kate, Tim & Joel drive show or Kate’s role within the show.'

'Kate is currently on planned leave and has been for the past few weeks. She will return to the Kate, Tim & Joel show after a survey break. Kate is a talented broadcaster and a respected member of the Kate, Tim & Joel and Nova Network team.'
The statement came after an article published by the Daily Mail alleged Nova that it sought Ricki-Lee Coulter to take Ritchie's position after the incident. Coulter, 36, is presently covering for Ritchie while she is on leave.
While some celebrities can get away with a slap on the wrist, others are not so lucky. In some cases, their careers have been ruined as a result of their DUI arrest. In others, they've been able to weather the storm and come out the other side.
Whatever the case will be for Ritchie, we hope that she gets the rightful resolution for this issue and learns from her mistake. We also encourage everyone to refrain from consuming any alcohol before hitting the road.
Always stay safe, folks! If you have opinions about Kate Ritchie's case, please don't hesitate to share them with us in the comments below!
