Jam Drop biscuits - gluten free

I bake these biscuits with a recipe by Donna Hay. It's a contrast from the usual jam drop biscuit recipes.
They have an 'earthy' flavour.

160gr buckwheat flour
90gr almond meal
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup light olive oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract * (or cinnamon)
No added sugar fruit jam * I use St. Dalfour berry flavours

In a large bowl, add the flour, almond meal, maple syrup, oil and vanilla extract.
Using a spatula, mix well to combine.
With a measuring tablespoon, spoon onto lined baking trays. * this mixture can be sticky.
Gently press thumb or finger into the middle of each biscuit to make an indent.
Fill each biscuit with 1/2 teaspoon of jam.
The mixture makes 20 biscuits.

Oven 160 degrees fan forced or 180 degrees.
Bake for 18 - 20 minutes, or until brown.

These jamdrops look very nice Penny . Must make them in the near future .I don’t mind gluten-free , and I have a few friends who are gluten intolerant. Went to a café last Thursday for morning tea and they served what it looked like gluten free fig and date bread , very big chunks in it and it was toasted as well . I tried to find something similar on the net , found something that may come close. (y)

They are very nice. 1/2 cup maple syrup seems a lot, but there are 20 biscuits so it's not much.
Cafes often have flavoursome gluten free foods for people, which is great.

Cafes charge so much for anything gluten free, vegetarian etc - so much better if a person can
make there own, & with less preservatives and additives - so much better for ones health and good when looking for something sweet at home:_)

That's true. I think foods from cafes are always pricey, even a small gluten free raspberry friand.

My daughter and her family went for breakfast this morning and my 4 year old grandson wanted banana bread. They paid $8 50 for 1 piece and he didn't eat it, he said it wasn't like mine. It was dairy free as he has allergies

Poor little fella. Nothing like homemade from his dear Grandmother.

Just how cute is he! - he may grow up to be a chef with his grandmothers cooking skills,
and he can be cooking in areas that also cater for people with allergies-dairy free:_)!

My favourite café is on the Sunshine Coast , it makes the best coffee and all the cakes etc look very attractive and colourful . They use only natural ingredients and everything is organic and mostly gluten free , vegan and vegetarian. They don’t use any refined sugar. If you want coffee with any other than the usual milk , there is no surcharge .they don’t use a microwave oven , if food needs to be heated , it just takes a little longer .
They also have a gift shop and most items are from artists who live in the area . They sell pots and pans , I have a collection from them , all natural , no nasty products and life long warranty. Then they have a plant nursery as well , where I bought some fruit trees recently . We can’t get passed there without stopping for a coffee. :D .

Sounds bliss!
I remember when I last took my 89yr old mother for coffee/cake at a local cafe. I did ask about their cakes, friands, slices etc. They told me they make them themselves onsite fresh every morning. Some cafes perhaps buy them from a supplier, which might not be healthy.

I passed this recipe onto my daughter and my granddaughter just arrived with a plate full of these , she did use white flour and they are so delicious 😋
Nice! I like the recipe because we don't have to get out the electric beaters for the sugar and butter like traditional jam drop recipes.
