It shows your thinking
The teacher said to the class: "We're going to test how you're thinking today. For example - behind my back I'm holding a round object that's red in color. What could it be?"
"A dozen hands shoot up -Miss! Miss! Miss!" they cried out. The teacher chose Mary, while Johnnie was scowling because he didn't get picked. "What do you think it might be Mary?"
"It's an apple, Miss."
"No Mary. It's a cricket ball, (which the teacher holds up and shows to the class); but it shows you're thinking. The teacher then suggests to the class that they might like to come up with ideas of their own. Miss! Miss! Miss!. Little Johnnie is the most vocal of all the children, but the teacher always picks someone else. Finally, after missing out multiple times, the teacher reluctantly picks Little Johnnie.
"In my hands, under the desk, I'm holding something that's 3 inches long, with a rubber tip on the end."
The teacher is horrified. "You disgusting little boy, Johnnie. Go and stand in the corner."
Johnnie replies, holding up a pencil. "No it's a pencil, Miss; but it shows you're thinking."
