When it comes to bullies, there’s something innately satisfying about seeing them reap instant retribution or, as it's commonly known, instant karma.
Such was the case when a 35-year-old man robbed an 11-year-old boy, Timofey, of his mobile phone before sprinting away.
Mikhail Makarov (72), a former security guard, was working on his car's engine on the side of the street in Schelkovo near Moscow when he heard the cry of the distressed child nearby and instinctively leapt to the rescue.
The CCTV footage that captured the incident showed the elderly man moving towards the thug and tackling him to the ground before pining him there until the police arrived.
Makarov explained that when he looked up, he saw the robber sprinting towards him and the child chasing after the robber.
The thief was flung into the air and landed on his back.
He quickly tried to run away again, however, Makarov grabbed his neck and pinned him to the ground.
The footage showed the thief struggling against the former guard’s grip; Makarov was able to overpower the thief despite his age.
A few moments later, a woman, believed to be Timofey’s mum, ran towards the scene and retrieved the phone as Makarov restrained the thief.
Makarov, who will be honoured by the police for 'not remaining indifferent' and 'helping police detain the suspect', said: 'I did nothing special, guys, it should be the norm.'
'There is a school nearby, and loud noises often happen. I looked, and this man is running away from the boy.
'The boy chases him, screaming hysterically. So I had to react.'
Makarov shared that while pinning the robber to the ground, he asked Timofey: 'What did he do?'
To which Timofey responded: 'He stole my phone.'
Makarov believes pensioners who are still active should do more to keep order in the streets.
The thief was later detained and reportedly had a previous criminal record according to the police.
