Is your Toyota Kluger putting you at risk? Find out why it's being urgently recalled

Airbags are one of the most important safety features in vehicles. They work alongside seatbelts to cushion the body and help prevent serious injuries in the event of a car accident.

That's why Toyota Australia is taking the issue of a potential airbag fault very seriously and has recalled approximately 630 Toyota Kluger SUVs.

Affected vehicles, produced between March 2023 and July 2023, were found to have an issue with the spiral cable assembly.

'For involved vehicles, the spiral cable assembly in the steering column may lose its electrical connection on the circuit controlling the driver's airbag,' the recall notice read.

'If this occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate, and the driver's airbag may not deploy in a crash.'

'As a result, the vehicle will not comply with certain local safety requirements and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash.'

Out of the estimated 630 vehicles affected by the recall, 300 have been handed over to their owners. The remainder will be fixed prior to dispatch to their owners.

Owners of affected vehicles will need to visit a Toyota dealer to have the serial number of the spiral cable inspected and, if necessary, have it replaced—free of charge.

As per Toyota, inspection will take around 30 minutes, while the replacement will take approximately an hour and 20 minutes. This also depends on the workload at the shop.

Toyota Australia has reportedly contacted owners of affected vehicles via SMS, e-mail, and/or mail sent to their last known address. Toyota customers are also encouraged to keep their contact details with Toyota up to date so future communications can be easily received.

This news comes after Skoda has issued a recall for its Fabia 2022 model due to the same airbag risk.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the front passenger airbag may deploy incorrectly, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

A total of 116 vehicles from 2022 were affected by the recall.

Owners of affected vehicles have been advised to contact an authorised Skoda dealership for a free inspection and repair.

Moreover, Mercedes-Benz Australia has urgently recalled 944 instances of their latest GLC model owing to a potentially dangerous manufacturing fault.

This fault pertains to the front towing point connection of the vehicle.

The company has stated that the connection depth of the front towing point may not meet manufacturing specifications and could possibly detach from the vehicle during frontal towing.

This fault increases the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, bystanders and other road users.

Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz in writing as soon as a solution is available, and then they can make an appointment with their local authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out free of charge.

I'm glad all dealers send out advice of recalls to their client base.
Make sure you keep that up to date via a dealership, and, when you get a letter, don't ignore it.
