Is your home at risk? Urgent recalls on Kmart lamps and a popular yoghurt from Woolies and Coles!

For the most part, we enjoy a wonderful sense of security in our homes. But there are times when certain products in our homes can be a real safety hazard, and that's why recalls are so important.
Two different products have been recently called in for an urgent recall in Australia—table lamps from Kmart and a certain yoghurt brand from Woolworths and Coles—and we wouldn’t be doing our job as part of the Seniors Discount Club of keeping our members educated and informed if we didn't share this important information with you.
First, Kmart has urgently recalled select lamps sold in their stores nationwide and online due to fears of electrocution.
These Marmo Table Lamps with inline switches have been reported as posing a severe hazard, and the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has confirmed instances of consumers receiving electric shocks due to the defective product.
The ACCC reports a dangerous defect that exposes live wires where the power cord connects to the inline switch. They warn of a possible 'risk of serious injury or death from electric shock or electrocution’.
These lamps in question were sold between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2019, and carry the key codes 42245209 and 42328384, with batch codes from 33/15 to 51/18. If you own one of these lamps, the ACCC advises you to 'immediately stop using the product, disconnect from mains power and cut the cord safely'.
Please return any affected lamps to your nearest Kmart or Khub store for a full refund or exchange them for a new Marmo Table Lamp. For more information, contact Kmart Customer Service during business hours on 1800 124 125 or visit www.kmart.com.au.
Now, onto another urgent recall affecting two flavours of a favourite yoghurt brand sold at both Woolworths and Coles. Those who have recently bought Jalna Dairy Foods' Lactose-Free Vanilla (1kg) and Sweet & Creamy Greek Coconut (1kg) are urged to check these products for potential contamination with dangerous E. coli bacteria.
The affected vanilla flavour yoghurts have a use-by date of July 28, while the affected coconut flavour yoghurts display a use-by date of August 2. These products were sold in major supermarkets nationwide, including Coles, IGA, and Woolworths.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand caution that if you suspect your yoghurt to be part of this recall, you should either return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it safely. Consumers concerned about their health due to potential contamination should seek medical advice.
E. coli bacteria naturally occur in the intestines of humans and animals, but specific strains can cause severe illnesses. Contaminated food is the most common way of contracting E. coli infection, which may lead to unpleasant symptoms such as stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, or bloody diarrhoea.
The treatment for an E. coli infection typically involves supportive care, such as rest and hydration. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed by a healthcare professional to target specific strains of E. coli, but it's important to follow medical advice to prevent antibiotic resistance.
At the Seniors Discount Club, we want to keep you well-informed and ready to take action when such recalls occur. Stay safe, everyone, and remember to remain vigilant regarding the quality and safety of the products you use daily.
Have you taken the time to verify whether you have any of these items in your home? If so, we recommend reaching out to the store for a refund. Remember, safety should always be a top priority for everyone. Stay safe, always!
