Is your car at risk? Huge recall over manufacturing defect could affect 200,000 vehicles

Mazda Australia has issued an urgent recall of close to 200,000 Mazda3 (BM, BN) and CX-3 (DK) models built between 2013 and 2020.

Unfortunately, a wiring fault has been discovered which may cause the rearview camera to become 'distorted or flicker'. This poses a risk of serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle, according to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

'If the rear-view camera display does not clearly display the rear-view image as intended, it could increase the risk of an accident,' the department said.

According to Mazda, owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing when parts become available to fix the issue. The work will be carried out free of charge.

In the meantime, if you’re a Mazda owner, then please make sure to check if your car is affected by this recall.

If you’re unsure, then please contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411 or email [email protected].

In any case, do not attempt to carry out repairs yourself; always contact the manufacturer for advice and assistance.

It's a pity that our hi-tech cars keep having to be recalled to fix things. We now have such stuff as electronic accelerators whereby when one presses the accelerator pedal an electronic signal is sent to the injectors/carburettor. What a stupid idea that is. Cable control is fail-safe.

I wonder, do those those that say, learn to drive, use the mirrors etc, use their seat belts 🤔 isn’t it just another safety system that has the potential to save a life. I have a Mazda 3 and have already had my camera replaced, it has saved me numerous times reversing out of tight parking spots! & yes, I learnt to use all my mirrors and, look back etc, first drive was a farm tractor, truck, motor bike and paddock bashed, so not an inexperienced driver!

I think mirrors are becoming like the Indicators, people
view them as "Optional Extras"
I find that when I ride my m/bike car drivers don't bother to look behind them and as for timely signalling and anticipation when changing lanes.......What's that mean, grandad?

NOT MAZDA, I work as a School Bus Driver (NSW) for disadvantaged children, my company recently installed electronic rear vision mirrors, which frankly are dangerous. I am worried that I or one of the other drivers will have an accident, be involved in an accident which would be as a direct result of these rear vision devises. Not just a 'flicker' multiple images & confusing reflections.
How do I get these investigated, without loosing my job?
