Is your car at risk? Another urgent recall announced!
For RAM 1500 Diesel drivers, there’s some disheartening news coming out of RAM Trucks Australia.
The Australian body of the US truck maker has just announced that more than 400 diesel versions of the RAM 1500’s outgoing DS-series model have been recalled due to a potentially fatal fault.
With this recall in effect, RAM Trucks Australia is urging owners of models produced between 2014-2019 to inspect their vehicles and take the necessary steps to get them fixed should they be affected.
According to the official recall notice, 437 Australian RAM 1500 diesel vehicles are at risk of being afflicted by a faulty fuel pump that could potentially cause a complete loss of power while driving.
The High-Pressure Fuel Pump is made with a manufacturing defect that renders it prone to malfunction at any time and could introduce failed component debris into the fuel system.
'This could impair the fuel supply to the engine and result in a loss of power whilst driving,' said the recall notice.
Left unchecked, this defect could result in potential injury or even death to the occupants of the car, other motorists, and bystanders.
RAM owners do have a way to check if their car is part of the affected serial numbers. RAM Trucks Australia has provided a link on their website to let car owners check if their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is part of the group that needs to be recalled.
You can browse the complete VIN list here.
Anyone who owns an affected vehicle will be notified by RAM Trucks Australia when parts become available. Instructions on how to schedule an appointment with an authorised RAM dealer will also be given to carry out the repair of the defect–free of charge.
But even if you don’t receive any mail from the manufacturer, concerned owners can call RAM Trucks Customer Assist on 1300 681 792 for more details.
It’s definitely worth double-checking if you own one of the affected cars, especially since this isn’t the first recall RAM Trucks Australia has had to order recently for the DS-series RAM 1500 model.
Earlier this year, in January, RAM Trucks Australia was forced to recall 3,000-odd RAM 1500 vehicles due to a problem with the tailgate.
And as mentioned, the 2009-released fourth-generation DS-series RAM 1500 is already on its way out and is due to be replaced soon by the cut-price Big Horn Version of the current DT-Series RAM 1500.
It’s always a good idea to do your research and read reviews of models and makes before you decide to make any big purchases, especially when you’re dealing with cars. Safety, after all, should always be your top priority!
