Nutrition and wellness expert Samantha Cassetty has cautioned those who are seeking to follow this trendy diet.
The celebrity nutritionist said that while it is true that consuming foods rich in essential nutrients can help those people with fertility issues, there are no studies that prove that eating them raw would add additional benefits to your health.
Ms Cassetty explained: “There is absolutely no credible evidence to suggest that eating raw animal organs could help you conceive.”
In fact, the trendy diet could potentially be more harmful than beneficial, according to the wellness expert.
“Cooking meat to a proper internal temperature is a kill step to destroy potentially harmful pathogens. These pathogens can include E. coli, salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes. Pathogens are sometimes found in the animal’s intestines, and they can contaminate other parts of the animal during slaughtering,” she said.
The nutritionist also advised that people who are experiencing fertility issues should look into incorporating whole plant foods — such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains — seafood, dairy, and soy-based products into their diet.
“This eating style, along with supplemental vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folic acid, has been shown to help improve fertility outcomes,” she said.
“Many elements of the ‘pro-fertility’ eating pattern overlap with the Mediterranean diet, which has also been shown to increase the chance that women undergoing fertility treatments will have a successful pregnancy and go on to have a baby.”
New York University Langone Fertility Center program director Dr Jamie Grifo backed the claims, saying that following a healthy lifestyle could help combat these issues.
“There are lifestyle and dietary changes people can make that can help improve their chances of conceiving,” Dr Grifo, who also serves as the Chief Executive Physician of Inception Fertility, said.
“For example, drinking alcohol can increase the relative risk of infertility by as much as 60 per cent, so we recommend that alcohol consumption be done in moderation, meaning no more than one drink per day.”

Aside from alcohol, the fertility expert also advised limiting caffeine intake to one or two servings a day.
Additionally, he suggested taking prenatal vitamin supplements as these do not only help improve your fertility health but also aid you to keep your general health in check.
The fertility doctor quipped: “Be sure to look for all of the B vitamins, vitamin D3, A, C and E plus micronutrients like copper, chromium, boron, magnesium folic acid and zinc.”
Now that we have discussed the potential dangers of eating raw meat, we're certain that some of our members are now wondering why it is safe to eat raw fish and seafood — such as sushi and oysters — and not raw meat?
Well, as it turns out, the types of bacteria present on different types of meat vary, hence, the levels of edibility of the meats — when consumed raw — also vary.
Ms Cassetty explained: “The organisms that might be inhabiting raw meat are more likely to be harmful than those inhabiting raw sushi.”
“Plus, the parasites that might be inhabiting raw fish are usually destroyed when frozen, and most of the fish prepared as sushi has been frozen before it’s consumed,” she emphasised, warning those who enjoy eating sushi and other raw seafood that there's a slight risk to consuming these delicacies.
