Is changing your doona cover a hassle? These three tips will help!

We here at SDC love learning about nifty life hacks – especially the ones that give our homes a refreshing change at no expense.

This is why we want to share three great hacks that will make changing your doona cover a breeze! So, if you’ve been struggling with this tedious task, read on and see how much easier it can be.

Anyone who has gone through the process of changing a doona cover knows it's not always as simple as just throwing on a new one.

The ritual can be time-consuming, frustrating, and even confusing – but thankfully, there are many people out there who generously shared their hacks online like Kyndall, who goes by the handle @nursekayemdee on TikTok.

She ‘swears by’ her best friend’s method, which starts by draping the cover over his entire body.

In her video, Kyndall covers her friend in the fabric, before taking two corners of the doona in his hands (while still encased in the sheets). She helps him fold and turn the cover, eventually her friend emerges with a neatly changed doona.

You can watch the ‘hack’ below:

Social media users were amused at the ‘hack’, while others were impressed. The video now has 9.7 million views on TikTok.

‘I do it the same. But only put my arms in the duvet inside out,’ said one.

Melbourne-based home hack queen, Chantel Mila, also has a doona hack to share.

In a video she posted on her TikTok page, ‘Mama Mila’ (as she is affectionately called) said that the quickest way to change the sheets is to lay the quilt cover inside out and place the doona on top.

Then, she rolled the quilt cover and doona together towards the end of the bed. Afterward, she said to flip the cover over and fasten at the end.

‘Unroll for perfect corners every time,’ she captioned. You can watch her doona hack below:

Her followers were grateful for the tip.

‘This is an awesome hack,’ wrote one.

‘The burrito method!’ Exclaimed another.

Lennia, proclaimed as the ‘folding queen’ by her 2.7 million followers, shared how she approaches this task.

She started by having the duvet cover inside out with the opening at the base of the bed, and the comforter on top of the duvet cover. Then she folded the sheets to make a ‘triangle’ at one end, before rolling the covers together like a burrito.

Then she brings out the entire roll from the inside out. Confused? You can watch her hack below and see how Lennia does it:

Lennia’s followers loved the hack, despite some getting baffled at the ‘trick’.

‘The math isn’t mathing right now,’ said one.

‘Okay, hold up! What kind of sorcery is this?’ Added another.

My hack, don’t turn cover inside out, grab the bottom corners of the cover one side in each hand, feed hands to top inside cover, cover is now folded back on itself, grab two corners of doona so you are holding the cover and doona. Give the whole lot a few shakes til cover falls down over doona. If doona has folded in at sides inside cover due to small opening in cover, grab one side of cover and doona and shake sideways. Never takes me more than a few minutes to do this. Same with pillows lips, grab centre at bottom of pillowcase in hand, feed hand to top, grab end of pillow and with other hand pull pillowcase onto pillow. Both quick and easy to do.

I grab two opposite ends of the doona and reach inside the cover until I locate the furthest two matching opposite corners then flap the whole thing like crazy until one gets a semblance of a doona inside a doona cover, then I button them up, another couple of breathtaking flaps, then flip on to the bed. I am 5 feet shrinking, nearer the middle than my early 80's, have an electric single bed and find bending can be challenging at times. But I still win the doona skirmish. Now if I had a Queen, King or worse, one of those 'supersized spread yourself out' beds the outcome would need to be ......revised. :+{

My Hack Get the Kids to do it.

This sounds like my method.

I have given up the fight with doonas and covers. I now use a top sheet and a quilted, weighted bedspread. I bought two (one on the bed and one in the wash), super king size so there's plenty of overhang and they are great. Won't find me going back to the doona! :)

I have put plastic press studs around the doona and the cover with a couple of different colours. Now all I have to do is match the press studs and turn right way. I never have a lumpy doona. Easy.

This is how I've always done it too. Works perfectly.
