To make matters worse, beloved chocolate brand Cadbury has been accused of 'shrinkflation' - reducing the size of their products without lowering the price.
So, with all these factors in mind, many are left wondering: is there a more budget-friendly alternative to satisfy chocolate cravings this Easter?
Recently, a shopper has taken to social media to share a delicious treat that can satisfy the chocolate cravings of any bargain hunter without emptying their wallets!
Sharing on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, the savvy customer revealed that Woolworths’ Belgian Milk Chocolate Block could rival that of popular brands, including the iconic Cadbury chocolate.
‘Not a markdown, but this chocolate from Woolies is BETTER than Cadbury and only $2.19. My partner’s favourite is usually Cadbury, but now he prefers this. A second flavour is also available,’ the shopper wrote.
It is no surprise that this post has attracted the attention of hundreds of group members, with many of them agreeing with the customer’s claim that the chocolate block is a delicious budget-friendly alternative.
One user wrote: ‘We also buy this and love it! It’s pretty good for the price!’
‘It tastes like Easter egg chocolate and I love it,’ another claimed.
A third joked: ‘STOP TELLING PEOPLE. This was my favourite, but over my last four shops, it's always sold out…’
The ever-popular salted caramel flavour seemed to be a hit as well, with multiple group members vouching for its deliciousness.
One person praised: ‘Yes, the salted caramel one is a favourite here! Very nice chocolate.’
‘I also use this when baking cookies! They do a caramel version that’s divine in baking. So much cheaper than cooking chocolate,’ another shared.
Aside from the shrinkflation allegations, some consumers have linked Cadbury's decline to rumours that the company has modified its ingredients, leading to a chocolate product of lower quality and less satisfying in flavour.
One comment read: ‘Unfortunately, Cadbury is not producing the best chocolate any more and shame on them! I agree this chocolate is much better and I love it.’
‘I don't know if I'm just getting older or if the Cadbury chocolate has actually gotten sweeter in recent years,’ another said.

Many group members have attested to the excellence of ALDI's own brand, stating that the ALDI Caramilk Limited Edition and Milk Coconut Block have an exquisite taste.

‘ALDI caramilk limited edition when they stock it for $1.99 is so much better than Cadbury. I buy heaps,’ another agreed.
