Is Australian legend Molly Meldrum hiding a ‘secret’ marriage?

Sometimes, strange rumours and stories emerge about celebrities from time to time. One such bizarre rumour has recently surfaced about the legendary music icon Ian 'Molly' Meldrum.

For years, we've known him as an influential figure on the Australian music scene, and now a nearly 50-year-old secret from his wilder days in London has been revealed.

According to The Source, Molly allegedly had a star-studded wedding ceremony with an Australian woman named Lynne during the 1970s. It's quite an unexpected turn of events.

The publication states that Molly was living with Lynne in London, but it is unclear whether the two were romantically involved at the time. What truly makes this rumour worth delving into is a recent social media post by a 'prominent Melbourne figure' who claimed to have been one of the witnesses at the civil ceremony.

'Molly decided he was going to get married to Lynne. So a civil ceremony wedding was arranged, and he asked me and a guy who was involved with the English band, Slade, to be his two witnesses,' the guest allegedly wrote.

According to the post, the ceremony hosted around 25 guests, consisting of Australian and English people in the music industry.

One can only wonder what happened with the wedding photos or with Molly's marriage to Lynne. The Melbourne figure confirmed in the post, 'I don't know what happened to the wedding photos, or his marriage, but I signed his marriage certificate as a witness.'

Adding to the intrigue, the post further insinuated that the marriage could have been a ploy to 'upset his good friend Elton John', although the reason remains unclear.

Interestingly, Lynne, who is believed to be still alive, reportedly left a comment on the social media post, saying, 'Thanks for the memories.'

Nonetheless, another source informed The Source that Molly and Lynne's wedding was not a legally binding union but merely an 'excuse for a party'. The true nature of the ceremony remains a mystery.

At present, Molly is in a long-term relationship with businessman Yan Wongngam. As for the rumours of this secret marriage, Molly has yet to comment, leaving many fans and music enthusiasts to speculate on the truth behind this story.

I think people need to be respectful.

Molly did alot for Australian music.

He made many close Celebrity friends and that wasn't an easy task unless you were a likeable person

Yes he embarrassed himself in recent times but that's in his minders. Unfortunately when he had that tragic fall it left him with brain damage .

To Molly thanks for the memories and everything you did for Aussie Music .

Lost all respect for him with his digusting behaviour on stage at the Elton john concert

Personally I was never a fan of Molly Meldrum. However, some of the unkind comments here are really pretty nasty. The man is advancing in age, and it looks as if he is suffering from some form of dementia if he needs carers with him most of the time. You never know when that might hit yourself, so people should think a bit more before leaving such comments.

This article is a shoddy example of what passes for journalism these days. It would not take more than 5 minutes to find the official record of any marriage in the UK https://www.archives.com/uk/ and verify the supposed rumour.

Having said that, who cares whether, if, where, or why? It was so long ago and everyone has moved on. Or at least some have!

As for Molly Meldrum, he needs better carers around him now. He is clearly unwell and should be protected from himself. The constant public humiliations he is enduring at this point in his life should not be splashed all over media of any sort. He deserves compassion, not media-induced ridicule or pity.

Couldn’t agree more. The man is an embarrassment to his CARERS and that’s on them! As carer of two dementia patients,I know it’s not hard to distract and remove from sticky situations. Allowing molly to shame himself is just disgusting. He is a treasure and should be allowed some privacy and dignity. Just leave the man alone.
