Is Australian legend Molly Meldrum hiding a ‘secret’ marriage?

Sometimes, strange rumours and stories emerge about celebrities from time to time. One such bizarre rumour has recently surfaced about the legendary music icon Ian 'Molly' Meldrum.

For years, we've known him as an influential figure on the Australian music scene, and now a nearly 50-year-old secret from his wilder days in London has been revealed.

According to The Source, Molly allegedly had a star-studded wedding ceremony with an Australian woman named Lynne during the 1970s. It's quite an unexpected turn of events.

The publication states that Molly was living with Lynne in London, but it is unclear whether the two were romantically involved at the time. What truly makes this rumour worth delving into is a recent social media post by a 'prominent Melbourne figure' who claimed to have been one of the witnesses at the civil ceremony.

'Molly decided he was going to get married to Lynne. So a civil ceremony wedding was arranged, and he asked me and a guy who was involved with the English band, Slade, to be his two witnesses,' the guest allegedly wrote.

According to the post, the ceremony hosted around 25 guests, consisting of Australian and English people in the music industry.

One can only wonder what happened with the wedding photos or with Molly's marriage to Lynne. The Melbourne figure confirmed in the post, 'I don't know what happened to the wedding photos, or his marriage, but I signed his marriage certificate as a witness.'

Adding to the intrigue, the post further insinuated that the marriage could have been a ploy to 'upset his good friend Elton John', although the reason remains unclear.

Interestingly, Lynne, who is believed to be still alive, reportedly left a comment on the social media post, saying, 'Thanks for the memories.'

Nonetheless, another source informed The Source that Molly and Lynne's wedding was not a legally binding union but merely an 'excuse for a party'. The true nature of the ceremony remains a mystery.

At present, Molly is in a long-term relationship with businessman Yan Wongngam. As for the rumours of this secret marriage, Molly has yet to comment, leaving many fans and music enthusiasts to speculate on the truth behind this story.

Molly is gay straight out and 50 years ago it was not excepted,
Not sure he would do it just to upset Elton John unless they were at sometime together.
I think it's Molly's business and whatever he did was his business as long as he is not hurting others.

Although his antics recently do concern others and hopefully that is now under control.

Let's remember it was Molly who helped Aussie bands and singers . Molly was the embassador for Australian music

Wouldn't say "stupid". as such. More like demented. In any case, let him stay off the screen and disappear silently.

Wouldn't take that much effort to look (for free) at marriage records for the woman. Will suggest it was at a time that his visa would have been only for tourism and as such was most likely a marriage of convenience. Clutch my pearls, a gay man marries a woman for a work visa.

Really who cares! It's time this senile old fool was forgotten and put in aged care home. He is a menace to society. This is not worth reporting .

To look up marriage registries the marriage has to be 100 years

True, who could forget Peter Andre!
Or, in another field, Ian Thorpe. As far as the gay -- why do they have so much trouble appearing to be "normal" and the connotation of the word has been lost? -- community is concerned and they wrestle with the Aboriginal industry to swamp our lives, just bloody forget 'em.

OMG
That was some 50 years ago and probably a lark.
What brought this out of the dark alleys of memories. Someone digging for story fodder to pay the mortgage.

No matter what, I will always remember him for do yourself a favour and the music I might otherwise never had heard.
The guy has earned the right to a quiet retirement. Leave him alone.

As Molly would say "Do yourselves a favour" and leave the poor bugger alone. He worked absolute miracles for Australian music and we all would be missing a lot of culture if he had not.
I think people forget what he did for Australian music . All I hope is he can live the rest of his life with dignity and that's on his minders .

We should be thanking him !
