'Is anyone else seeing this?': Bunnings item sparks speculation from customers

When you think of Bunnings Warehouse, you envision aisles filled with power tools, garden supplies, and the scent of a sausage sizzle during weekends.

It's a place where DIY dreams come true and where every Aussie can find something they need for their home.

Recently, some shoppers have stumbled upon an item that sparked a surprising amount of debate and controversy.

A Melbourne local shared her astonishment about a specific item she found at the hardware giant.

'Is anyone else seeing this?' she asked as she showed gun safes prominently displayed at a Bunnings warehouse in Hawthorn.

She could not help but question the demand for such an item in the heart of Melbourne, a bustling metropolitan typically disassociated with firearm ownership.

'I was at an inner-city Bunnings today, and all of a sudden, they have gun safes. What is going on?' she added.

The video quickly captured the attention of the online community, with many echoing her disbelief.

Social media users were also taken by surprise and shared their thoughts about the item.

'The location does make it strange!' one commenter agreed. 'I only really know of rural farmers who own guns.'

'I get what you're saying; fair enough suburban or regional Bunnings, but a smaller inner-city one? I would not expect them to stock them!' another commented.

However, not everyone was taken aback by the discovery.

Several long-time customers and former employees chimed in to say that Bunnings has always carried gun safes in their stores.

'They have been selling them since at least 2017 when I worked there,' one commenter revealed.

'They reckon they have been selling these types of safes for 15 years!' another exclaimed.

Some commenters also praised Bunnings for making gun safes accessible.

'This is a good thing,' a third remarked.

'There are super strict regulations as to how guns have to be stored. The availability in a convenient shop means that they're more likely to be stored safely,' they pointed out further.

In response to the growing conversation, Bunnings provided a separate statement about this find.

'Providing a range of products to meet the needs of our customer base is important to us,' a Bunnings spokesperson stated in an interview.

'We have stocked a range of gun safes across our stores for a while now, and the availability depends on a variety of factors.'

There’s legal gun clubs who enjoy shooting at different certified shooting ranges. Also, hunting groups use gun safes. I’m not a member of any of these, but it’s best if the firearms are safely contained.
