Inspiring Kmart fan upcycle can upgrade ANY space and all it takes is a little bit of paint - “Looks AMAZING!”

We love decor hacks here at the SDC. Although there’s no shortage of upcycling projects online, coming across an especially artistic and innovative one still makes our day. One creative mum did just that and the results made our jaws drop!
Penny Clausen brought upcycling to a whole new level with her fresh idea to upgrade boring, plain stationary fans.
“I jazzed up my Anko chrome fan with a bit of paint.” she captioned her Facebook post alongside pictures of the marvellous results.
Though the process looks incredibly onerous, Penny clarified in the comments section that it’s not as difficult as it seems, saying: “It’s just very time consuming, but I love doing tedious things.”
On a separate occasion, she shared: “I am very crafty and always look for different things to do. I currently paint quite a lot. I saw my old fan sitting there and thought how I could paint it and make it look more appealing”
Mandala painting is relatively new to the artistic mum. It was something she dove into after an operation forced her to give up crochet.
“My main thing for many years was crochet until I had to have double hand surgery," she said.
"I had my right hand operated on first, back in April 2020. I couldn’t stand not doing anything, so I started to teach myself to paint with my non-dominant left hand, starting with a dot art or mandala.”
"In October 2020 I had surgery on my left hand, so I started painting with my right hand. I also love dot art, so I just started painting and that is what I came up with."
"I have made three (fans) so far, just for myself and family.” she added.
Penny also detailed her upcycling process to guide those who want to give the idea a go.
"I used acrylic paint, ECR base prep, brushes, mandala dotting tools and topcoat," she explained.
"I prepared the base with ECR base prep then painted a coat of acrylic over the top, then I just started dotting with the acrylic paint freehand. My overactive mind and imagination came up with the idea, I guess," she added modestly.
Thousands of fellow DIY enthusiasts and home decor fans were impressed by her idea, with many flocking to the comments section to praise her masterpiece.
“‘A bit of paint’ and a whole lot of artistic talent!! Looks fantastic – well done!” wrote one user.
“I love it! What a brilliant idea.” chimed in another.
“It looks SO cool, I love what you've done with it, extremely creative.” commented a third.
While a fourth shared a similar idea but used stickers instead, saying: “I love my niece’s effort. A Spider-Man fan for her son.”, alongside an image of a fan designed with Spiderman stickers.
Penny inspired fellow home decor fans with her clever idea.

Although she works full-time, Penny has opened an Etsy store to sell her art.
“I have started selling my paintings all over Australia – I just can’t believe people like my stuff!” she said humbly.
“I am so happy I started painting, I just love it.”
