Insiders reveal Prince Andrew's bizarre bedroom habit and hidden obsession

The British Royal Family often evokes images of tradition, elegance, and intrigue. However, a new book offers a rare glimpse into one well-known member's unusual personal habits.

Surprising details emerge behind closed doors, challenging the polished image many have come to expect.

Readers may find themselves questioning just how much remains hidden from public view.

In the book Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, author Tom Quinn delves into the royals' private lives as told by the staff working within the palace walls.

One of the more whimsical revelations is Prince Andrew's alleged obsession with his teddy bears. Yes, you read that correctly—teddy bears.

According to Quinn, the Duke has a prized collection of teddy bears that must be arranged in a pyramid-shaped arrangement in his bedroom.

The meticulous placement of these cuddly companions is so crucial to Prince Andrew that he reportedly becomes quite irate if they are not positioned to his liking.

This peculiar demand is emblematic of the Duke's eccentric nature.

Staff members have described him as someone who doesn't do much for himself, relying on a dedicated team member to organise the teddy bears daily.

The collection, which numbers between 20 and 30, must be arranged just so, or the Duke's temper may flare.

The book's author, Quinn, suggests that Prince Andrew's fastidiousness with his teddy bears reflects a broader sense of entitlement and a short temper, which have not endeared him to palace aides.

Some staff members reportedly view him as difficult to work for, with Quinn noting that the Duke's frustration over his role within the royal family may contribute to his behaviour.

The Duke's affinity for teddy bears isn't a new topic. In the past, former Buckingham Palace maid Charlotte Briggs has spoken about her experience arranging his collection of 72 teddy bears during the mid-1990s.

The task was taken seriously, with Briggs receiving a full day's training on correctly positioning each bear.

The Steiff bears, many dressed in sailor suits, had to be laid out in size order every morning and rearranged around the room at bedtime.

The story of Prince Andrew's teddy bears even made its way into popular culture, with a portrayal of the Duke berating a maid over the arrangement of his bears in the 2024 Netflix drama Scoop.

The anecdote has been further corroborated by Paul Page, a former member of the Royal Protection, who recalled seeing a laminated card with a picture of the teddy bears used to guide their correct placement.

Despite the Duke's apparent passion for his collection, Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew's spokesperson have historically declined to comment on such claims.

However, the Duke acknowledged his love for teddy bears, stating in 2010 that he had collected them from all over the world during his time in the Navy.

While some may find the Duke's teddy bear habit endearing, others may see it as an oddity unbefitting a royal family member.

Regardless of public opinion, it's clear that even those who live in palaces have their quirks and personal attachments.

For our readers over 60, this story might bring a smile or a shake of the head.

After all, everyone has their unique habits and collections that bring them comfort and joy.

My bear collection is an ongoing one. The collection comes out on the first Sunday in Advent when the Christmas decorations are displayed and remain till the Epiphany on 6 January, when the collection is packed away. Purchases have been made on trips over the years. Last year, the pride of purchase was the Guernsey teddy, along with a small teddy from York Minster. Included, is one from Buckingham Palace and one from Sandringham. There are twins made by a Milton-Ulladulla Hospital Auxiliary member for our fund-raising Christmas stall. Heidelberg was the “birth” of my green hatted teddy. A large teddy was the joke third prize in a raffle! We were delighted! Along with an adult son, I delight in collecting and enjoying my bear collection.

Good luck with dusting and keeping your bears clean. I’ve seen ‘collections’ in people’s homes in display cabinets behind glass and somehow the dust and grime got in anyway and it looked so awful.

l remember seeing this woman on a tv program who had every top just everything covered in ceramic objects and l wondered at the time how long she must have spent cleaning them all.
We visited an old couple my daughter was friends with and her lounge was full of dolls and teddy bears there was hardly any room to sit down and a dressed up doll in a pram and a lovely big rocking horse he had made his self. Soon after he was in hospital and died and she went into a home. l hope she managed to sell everything especially the rocking horse

Are we all in desperate need of this type of news about Prince Andrew?

Teddy Bears are a joy to have& collectors display them beautifully.

But…… with regards to Prince Andrew,
I couldn’t give a rats bum about him.

He is a paedophile & should be subject to others the same. I have no time for them or him!
Absolutely correct.

I have a collection of Bears that began on the day I was born with a favourite Uncle presenting me with my first Teddy which I apparently simply referred to as Bear once I learned how to talk. Bear and all his friends There are ( multiple) Have their own shelf in our Bedroom, not on the bed,so that husband is not irritated by them ,he happily built and painted their shelf for them. If Bear could talk he would have many stories to tell about his adventures with me as he has been my companion for my entire life and has been everywhere with me. a little worse for wear now he is missing his eyes and has bald patches making him look as if he has a bad case of mange!! but is still very much loved and wanted, others (Bears) have come and gone but he has remained a faithfull companion all these years.

And the poor little misunderstood twit wanted to dress up in an admiral's uniform at his daddy's funeral, too ... the story didn't make clear if it was a rear admiral.

Has anyone bothered to ask him, why he likes teddy Bears. Maybe he is just a bit sentimental. My husband rescued one that had been dropped in the gutter once. it came inside and was given a bath and sat on a shelf.
If he is paying the staff to arrange them, he can have it done how he likes. No different than paying to have any other task done.

I had an extensive collection of Christmas bears, that I pulled out each year, and 2 years ago my husband somehow gave them away when I told him to take the travel bag with the broken wheels to the OpShop. I sure hope they checked inside because they were probably worth a couple of thousand dollars. By the way this was only discovered when I found the bag with the broken wheels under a bed.
As for the English paedophile he should be resting with his mate as far as I'm concerned.
