Imported health products pose health risks—Here's what you need to know

Australia's leading medicines watchdog, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), has issued a stern warning to consumers about imported health products from China.

These products, which have not been tested to Australian standards, contain substances that pose serious health risks.

The TGA's warning highlights the importance of being vigilant about the origins and contents of health products, especially those purchased online.

These products, with labels such as Maximum Powerful, Bigger Longer More Time More Sperms, Ying Da Wang, and Li Da Daidaihua, contain undeclared substances that can have severe health implications.

The BAWEI Maximum Powerful, Bigger Longer More Time More Sperms and Ying Da Wang tablets all contain an undeclared substance called sildenafil.

Sildenafil, also known as Viagra, is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men, improve the ability to exercise in adults and treat children one year of age and older with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

This substance can dangerously lower blood pressure levels and can pose a ‘serious risk’ to health, especially when combined with nitrates found in some prescription drugs. Moreover, the supply of tablets with undisclosed sildenafil is illegal.

'Sildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels,' the TGA warned.

'People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease are often prescribed nitrates.’

‘Sildenafil taken in combination with other medications can cause serious side effects.'

The TGA has also flagged the Li Da Daidaihua capsules for containing the undeclared substance sibutramine.

Sibutramine is a substance that has been used as an appetite suppressant for weight loss, which has been discontinued in several countries due to its increased risks of cardiovascular events.

‘Consumers are advised that sibutramine is a prescription-only substance in Australia,’ the TGA said.

‘Sibutramine was withdrawn from world markets in 2010 due to increased risk of cardiac events and stroke.’

‘Stop using Li Da Daidaihua capsules and take any remaining tablets to your local pharmacy for safe disposal,’ the TGA added.

TGA warned that these tablets have not been assessed for their quality, safety, or efficacy, and the place of manufacture has not been approved by the Australian government.

The TGA has advised consumers to stop using these tablets immediately and to take any remaining tablets to a pharmacy for safe disposal.

The agency is also working with the Australian Border Force (ABF) to prevent future shipments of these products from entering Australia.

‘We will notify ABF to seize and destroy any of these products intercepted at the border,’ the TGA stated.

‘We advise consumers to exercise extreme caution when purchasing medicines from unknown overseas websites.’

‘Products purchased over the internet may contain undisclosed and potentially harmful ingredients.’

How to Protect Yourself from Dangerous Health Products

To protect yourself from dangerous health products, it's important to only purchase from reputable sources. This includes pharmacies, health food stores, and trusted online retailers.

Before purchasing a product, do your research. Check if the product has been approved by the TGA or another reputable health authority.

Look for reviews and testimonials from other consumers. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If you're unsure about a product, consult with a healthcare professional. They can provide advice based on your individual health needs and circumstances.

Remember, your health is your most valuable asset. Don't risk it by taking shortcuts or falling for false promises.

Who in their right mind would buy such rubbish, including dubious "health supplements" manufactured by alleged reputable companies such as Nature's Own, Swisse and Blackmore's? Hairy Goat Weed....St John's Wort? Homeopathic and naturopathic preparations endorsed by people with zero knowledge of pharmacology. Maybe as well make an appointment with an Amazon Forest witchdoctor.

I hear the screams of "Big Pharma!" Unfortunately, "Big Pharma" discloses the active ingredients of their medications - discrete chemical compounds with a specific pharmacokinetic function. As opposed to these mixtures of 11 different weeds and thistles. The placebo effect raises its ugly head yet again.

Another gullible consumer sucked in by a medical system run by big pharma. Good luck with your kidneys and liver while sucking down those great "discrete chemical compounds". What a joke. Oh, wait a minute, no problems, once your kidneys and liver start to deteriorate from the "discrete chemical compounds", you will be prescribed more "discrete chemical compounds" to combat their demise. No worries then, all good.

Im gonna get abused for this no doubt but Covid vaccine springs to mind here, forced to have it, caused nasty reaction needing hospital visit & strong pain relief, but no one cared about that at the time & I'm still experiencing discomfort & mental anguish from it

I will agree that it is a contentious issue. However, in reading reports from various health organisations across the world, they agree that deaths prevented by the COVID-19 vaccine far outweigh those deaths due to COVID-19 itself.

@erickendall care to refute this fact or will you resort to quoting a passage from some stoner website such as "High Times" or "Cannabis Monthly".

I would like to know which pharmacys are making their own weekly injections for diabetes.I believe they are selling out of stock because dieters are buying up the stock and pharmacy is doing first come first served. My husband is wondering if the symptoms he is getting while using these injections are because he is getting a substitute. [email protected]

My nieve husband stopped his diabetic medication 6 weeks ago because he read how bad it was and better to take a so called natural product that works without damaging , liver and blah blah blah.

Over the past week his ankles and feet have swelled and he keeps getting dizzy and vision sometimes goes.
I have been taking his sugar readings which have been pretty much normal over the last 18 months while taking his Metaformin.

Now he put himself on this so called natural medication levels are through the roof.
So today he agreed to go back on his diabetic medication , no thanks to the so called crap from China

I have a problem even trusting the TGA... They approved the use of the Bioweapon Vaccine which has killed millions of people world wide, not that I would buy any of those tablets that have been stated here

What's that? Bioweapon? Sounds like a virulent strain of anthrax. Time for research.
Just did a quick literature search and came across a paper published last year in the Military Medicine journal. It stated that the premise that the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine could be used as a bioweapon has been thoroughly debunked. Not much gets past this little black duck!
