Hungry Jack's Cafe Blend wins the prestigious Golden Bean Award!

If you’re looking for a new delicious coffee to add to your daily morning routine, then the distinguished winner of the 2023 Golden Bean Award might be just what you’re looking for.

Grinders Coffee, creators of the coffee blend used exclusively by Hungry Jack’s, have taken home equal first place for Overall Large Chain Champion in Australia’s largest roasting competition, The Golden Bean.

This isn’t the first remarkable achievement in Grinders Coffee’s history, however. Founded in Melbourne in 1962, the company has seen its fair share of success over the years, steadily growing in size and stature over the decades.

In more recent years, Grinders Coffee has become a key provider of quality coffee for the Jack’s Cafe network, which boasts more than 450 locations across the country.

With a robust and long-standing partnership between the two companies, Hungry Jack's has certainly tasted success with their collaboration.

Grinders Coffee’s General Manager, Sally Byrne, had some glowing words about the coffee blend as well as the roasters who have been making it for Jack’s Cafe for the past four years.

'We are delighted to receive this recognition and take home the gold medal at Golden Bean this year for our blend at Jack’s Cafe,' said Ms Byrne.

'As a leading coffee roaster and a key partner of Jack’s Cafe, we are constantly striving to deliver the highest quality coffee, day in, day out.’

‘We are proud of our partnership and will continue to work relentlessly to roast our coffee to perfection, locally in Melbourne.'

Head of Jack’s Cafe, Joy Villanueva, was also ecstatic that the Grinders’ coffee blend won the competition.

'It’s now official. The coffee is better at Hungry Jack’s,' she said in a statement.

'Coffee quality and great service are key to customer satisfaction at Jack’s Cafe, and with Grinders receiving this well-deserved recognition for the Jack’s Cafe blend, our customers can rest assured they are being served premium coffee every time.'

And that isn’t all. Hungry Jack’s invested AUD 20 million into state-of-the-art equipment and training to ensure that customers get their 'best coffee experience possible' each and every time.

The company also aims to present its customers with a signature blend of coffee with the infusion of robust arabica beans from Papua New Guinea and Costa Rica, increasing Australia’s imports which doubled in the past 10 years.

‘We all know how much Australians love their coffee, and quality barista-made coffee isn’t just “nice to have”, it is an expectation from our customers,’ Hungry Jack’s Chief Executive Chris Green said.

The Grinder Coffee blend is sure to be a crowd pleaser, and with its convenience, quality, and the guarantee of a gold-medal brewing experience, you'll maybe be reaching for it on future coffee runs again and again.

The worse coffee I drank in my life was at a hungry jacks. If they are the best of the lot.... this is why I get mine from a proper Café.

I could never understand the hype surrounding coffee. People screaming out "Gotta have my coffee.... I can't get through the day without it!" sort of thing.

Coffee addiction is up there with alcohol, illicit drugs and gambling - all three I have partaken in during my life. Actually, caffeine is a chemical cousin of cocaine and heroin. And I just love the fumes of rancid stale coffee breathe exuding from the person behind you in a queue.

Caffeine is a stimulant. This is not a joke but why aren't you booked for having over the prescribed limit of caffeine in the blood stream when driving? You are not naturally awake and your brain chemicals are messed around with just like any other alkaloid.

You can dismiss this as a joke but think about it.

You make a good point. Too much caffeine is a problem. Especially when combined with diet drinks and the V drink some people seem to be obsessed with. A combination of these put someone I know into hospital. They were trying to lose weight. Thanks for pointing this out to others.

Being the researching creature I am, the pharmodynamics of caffeine is quite disturbing. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) even classifies caffeine induced anxiety as a disorder.

They don’t do decaffeinated coffee so Maccas is the winner because they do. If you have your coffee with food it’s free (seniors coffee)

I don't think there is a cumulative effect with caffeine. It is metabolised by the liver. That much I know.

Time for more research!
Hopefully I can rest easy ,will look forward to your research, thank you.

From The Cumulative Neurobehavioral and Physiological Effects of Chronic Caffeine Intake: Individual Differences and Implications for the Use of Caffeinated Energy Products, Andrea M Spaeth, Namni Goel, and David F Dinges (2014) as published in the Nutrition Review Journal.

However, caffeine may be unsafe and its effects difficult to predict at higher doses, especially for individuals with certain genetic polymorphisms or with specific medical conditions (e.g., heart conditions, hypertension, diabetes, gastrointestinal issues).

There's hundreds of research papers out there which paint caffeine in a less than desirable light.

According to the FDA the time it takes for the starting amount of caffeine to reduce in the body is between four and six hours. My young friend continually kept topping herself up. Diet drink for breakfast, followed by a V drink on the way to work. Coffee sachet for morning tea, followed by another diet drink. Afternoon tea, another coffee sachet followed by another diet drink, usually Diet Pepsi. So, it went on until she collapsed with heart palpations.
I'm really glad you started that conversation Vegiepatch. Thankyou.

That's OK. I like to engage in a conversation which people talk about something other themselves and impart knowledge, not beliefs. Taking of addictions, I AM addicted to researching, having spent almost 30 years in formal tertiary education post school, and for my own personal pleasure.

I'm glad you have an interest in the subject at hand!

Join the club! I have disliked coffee for the majority of my life. And it's almost 10 years to the day since I had my stent installed after a minor heart attack.

What a strange sensation is having an angiogram? Feeling like you want to pee yourself then the sensation of a million fire ants dancing across your chest as the dye travels! Arrrggghhh!

Hi Leenie, Good to hear that you have you're stent and are ok. I am very happy that Vegiepatch started this conversation, due to the things I have seen.
My husband had 6 stents, and today Vegiepatch finally gave me the answer to a question I asked him many times, about the procedure, I am grateful for his openness and honesty, a great service to many.
I do want to say to you, that if you like the taste of coffee, you can have decaf,I found it to be not too bad.
I wish you all the best in your recovery.

I'm here to give advice where I see appropriate but I'm not an expert in the medical field whatsoever. My expertise is chemistry and disabilities, of which I have over 35 years of experience combined. In saying that, if someone asks a question on SDC and it irks my interest, I will research it further. My hunger for knowledge knows no bounds.
