How an Aussie mum transformed her tiles with a $5 purchase

Are you looking to revamp your tiles without breaking the bank? Well, an Australian mum has shared her trick for sprucing up her son’s floor–all with a $5 product easily available at Coles or Woolworths!

The mum shared on a popular Facebook group called Mums Who Clean how she used Gumption—available at Coles and Woolworths—to overhaul her son’s apartment floor.

'I thought that ladies might like to see this,' she wrote.

'My son had tiles which, although clean, didn’t look the best (in my opinion!). So I bought him some Gumption and cleaned ONE TILE in his hallway!

'What a difference!' The mum exclaimed.

The post has garnered attention from impressed mums, with fellow group members echoing her praise for Gumption.

'Gumption is so reliable and good,' wrote one.

'I can’t believe what a difference one product can make,' added another.

'That’s amazing! That’s how much gunk was left to sit there for quite some time. Well done, mum!' A third said.

Meanwhile, some mums shared their own tricks for optimising the tile cleaning process.

'I use [Gumption] on kitchen and laundry sinks too. What a shine!' Remarked one.

'I use [it] to clean my four-bedroom house one tile at a time, hands and knees with a nail brush, toothbrush and cloth—twice a year. Was so therapeutic,' revealed another.

And another suggested: 'Cinderella it! I’ve done it before. The dirt gets stuck in the textured tiles and makes it hard to clean properly with just a mop. I used soapy water and a scrubbing brush.'

Members of the SDC shared similar positive experiences with the product and how they use Gumption on other surfaces, such as stainless steel and in the kitchen and bathroom.

‘I wouldn't be without Gumption–it is good for all manner of cleaning jobs–even my hubby uses it in the shed,’ Member @Bridgit shared.

While Member @Kingpin stated: ‘Gumption or Pink Stuff are the best I have found for cleaning and polishing stainless steel sinks.’

‘Gumption also does a fantastic job of shining up your kitchen sink. Just the tiniest amount on a damp cloth, rub around the sink, rinse off and voila, shining sink!’ Member @Catherines shared.

You will get the same result with a bucket of hot water , scrubbing brush and creme cleanser or Ajax.

I used to always scrub one tile at a time on my hands and knees, once a month.

I totally agree you don't get out all the dirt from tiles just by sweeping and mopping . My floor tiles have little lines which dirt gets stuck.
If I ever redo the tiles I would use the smooth shiny ones

Gumption is good and so is Jif or any cream cleanser. Vacuuming is best, as sweeping doesn't pick all the dirt up. Then use the mop.

"Gumption" is great and I have been using it on & off since the 70's. But you still need to rub it on and wash it off. Thats a lot of elbow grease & water, plus if you don't clean it all off you get a powdery residue leftover. I now use a range of product from another cleaning company call "SpotGO", fully Australian owned & made. Use to get it from my Woolies but for some reason they pulled it off their shelves. So now I buy it direct from the company at "Jilliby N.S.W."

I use gumption and have used it for years Great product, worth the spend. Recently used it on a laminated shower wall which was stained, cleaned up beautifully without harsh scrubbing.

been using it forever likely 50 years. I recall an old cast iron bath that had never been cleaned (red rusty coloured scum) and the woman said nothing will clean that. And within 1/2 an hour it was like new.

Be very careful Suzanne - glazed tiles are very slippery and if you have a spill on them they are lethal and you will have a "spill"

I have smooth, shiny, tiles. They are an absolute pain, honestly the only way to keep them looking spick and span is to have NO pets and NEVER walk on them 😂

How could anyone let a tiled floor get to that state. Looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since it was laid. I use a Chux scouring Pad when I mop my tiled. Floors it gets any soiled spots out without any hassle and mine have been down 23 yrs after getting rid of carpet.

Gumption has been around for years, hand cleaner removal of grease a all round great product alway have one and the soap bar in the laundry
