Household Crystals

Who still has these treasures at home? These classic glassware used to be in full display across many Aussie homes, and have become part of families’ histories, passed down from one generation to another. Do you still have these crystals? Tell us all about it here.

Yeah, everybody had them.
I have a few pieces that have been handed down and if you go to any op shop in Australia, you will see cabinets full of them.

I’ve kept a couple of pieces I inherited but have been in boxes for donkeys years I can’t give them away anyone want them 🤣

Dust collectors....the lot of them!!
They are if you don't use them! I have a cupboard full of them and they always get used when family & guests visit. I do not use glass for guests as everything including water tastes so much better from a crystal glass.

after 63 years I have finally removed the last of special crystal, glass and silver wear that was handed down or given to me from my grandmother & mother.

Very sad to see it go but none of my female family members want them, they all said it was just clutter. They don't want memories they just want to know is it worth anything (money).

Yes, I have lots of crystals at home. A small vase and a bell shaped crystal given to me when I turned 18 and 21 yrs. I also have lovely larger vase and glass ware, which is very special, as it belonged to my Mum. I use the glasses at Christmas and think of my dearest Mum. I also have a small napkin holder and large jug - so lots of special pieces!

I have been gifting one Swarovski crystal animal figure to my grandaughter since her first birthday - she is now 21 and absolutely loves her collection and the rainbow prism they reflect in the sunlight (a hangover of mine since I saw the movie Polyanna at the theatre 60+ years ago. She also had a fascination for the crystal prism.)

Being a boy ... the title made me think of crystal radio sets and how all the boys I knew built them out of scraps and listened to the AM radio stations.
