Honey Granola Oat Bars

I made this yesterday for the first time and it was delicious.
I found the recipe on tasteofhome but changed it up a little .

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped unsalted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup sunflower kernels
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup honey you could also use golden syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped date

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C or 160 °C fan-forced
  2. . In a large bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, peanuts, chocolate chips , dates and sunflower kernels.
  3. Stir in butter, honey and vanilla until combined (mixture will be crumbly). Press into a greased and lined with baking paper 15x10x1-in. baking pan.
  4. Bake until lightly browned, 15-20 minutes. Cool 15 minutes in pan on a wire rack; cut into bars. Cool completely before removing from pan.
  5. Transfer cooled oatmeal granola bars to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 week. Bars can also be frozen in an airtight container for up to 2 months.

What else can you mix into oatmeal granola bars?

Try adding dried cranberries or cherries for some extra tanginess, and substitute the chocolate chips for dark chocolate. If you love peanut butter, substitute the chocolate for peanut butter and extra nuts

TO MAKE THESE VEGAN

swap the chocolate chips for vegan chocolate, or replace them with a dried fruit instead. Use a nut or vegan butter (or coconut oil) as a replacement for the butter.
