Homeowner transforms IKEA item with ‘brilliant’ makeover trick!

When it comes to home decor, sometimes the most innovative ideas come from unexpected places.

One such idea has recently been shared by a savvy IKEA shopper, who has turned her unconventional wardrobe space into a plush haven using a simple yet effective IKEA trick.

The trick? Repurposing IKEA's ALMTJÄRN bath mats to create a custom rug for her 'oddly shaped' walk-in closet.

The ALMTJÄRN bath mats, priced at $29 each, are popular among IKEA shoppers for their soft, plush texture and easy-to-clean material.

However, this creative homeowner saw beyond their intended use and envisioned a unique solution for her decorating dilemma.

By combining four of these bath mats, she was able to craft a bespoke rug that not only fit her space perfectly but also stayed under the $120 mark, proving that style doesn't always have to come with a hefty price tag.

The DIY decorator couldn't contain her excitement as she shared her project on social media, stating, 'I’m actually thrilled about the way this turned out because I’m able to wash them without hassle, and they feel so soft and plush under our feet.'

The trick was met with widespread praise from fellow online users, who were quick to applaud the innovative thinking.

Comments poured in, with one user acknowledging the smart approach, stating, 'Keeping them separate would definitely help with fitting them in the washer and dryer when needed! Smart!'

Others chimed in enthusiastically, calling the trick 'brilliant' and commending the user for using space.

'Such a great idea! I wouldn't have even known they were bath mats put together if you hadn't said; they look like one rug,’ said one commenter.

IKEA shopper revealed the assembly process of her craft.

'I literally just put them on the floor together and then fluffed them to try and blend the lines,' she said. No stitching or gluing is required!

Online users pointed out that the separation of the mats was also said to be a practical choice, allowing for easy washing and drying.

The user planned to add a ‘large ottoman in the centre, which will also help keep them all in place’ to sustain the rug’s stability.
