Home and Away star Sophie Dillman reveals subtle detail in ‘pregnancy’

Home and Away's Sophie Dillman drove her fans wild when she shared two snaps of herself sporting a huge baby bump back in November.

If you've been keeping up with Home and Away lately, you'll know that Sophie Dillman's character Ziggy Astoni is expecting a child with Dean Thompson (played by her real-life boyfriend Patrick O’Connor).

While Sophie isn't actually pregnant in real life, many commented on how realistic the photos looked. She also revealed how the costume department managed to create such a ‘believable’ baby bump.

The TV star told reporters that she wore different-sized bumps depending on how far along Ziggy was in her pregnancy. The costume department made her wear three different bumps – with the last one being the biggest and ended up causing a bit of trouble for Sophie.

‘It’s like two sets of tummy tucker underwear, and then in the middle of it, there’s a belly pillow. So, I had three sizes of belly pillows; you put it in and then do it up and then you put your clothes over the top,’ she explained.

And while she said she was comfortable shooting with the fake baby bumps, she admitted she went through a couple of hiccups while on set.

She revealed that when she wears the biggest one, she waddles.

‘You can’t do up your shoes when you’re pregnant, and you can’t sit properly or stand quickly or anything like that,’ she said. Sophie added that being pregnant felt ‘bizarre’.

The Home and Away star revealed to reporters a behind-the-scenes mishap while getting ready to shoot in between scenes.

She said that her fake belly was so convincing, people from the costume and makeup department thought she was pregnant in real life.

‘There was somebody in the makeup room the other day who didn’t realise I wasn’t pregnant.’ Sophie said that she cried while watching a certain movie, and the makeup artist turned to her and said ‘Well, obviously you did in your condition’.

‘I was like, “Hey! This isn’t real!” and I laughed.’

Sophie’s followers love the pregnancy storyline and shared their thoughts on her social media page.

‘I love pregnant Ziggy, I’ve enjoyed this storyline of Ziggy and Dean becoming parents,’ one said. They later added that Sophie looked ‘so cute’ while wearing the fake pregnancy belly.

Another added: ‘Beautiful. I love watching you two as a couple. [You will] make amazing parents in real life.’

Sophie admitted that she thinks her real-life beau likes her being pregnant as well.

‘He keeps saying it looks good on me, and to be honest, I actually think I look good pregnant too.’
