In the wee hours of the night, a family's world almost turned upside down as their home was suddenly engulfed in flames.
However, thanks to one neighbour's quick wit and brave actions, their story turned from a potential tragedy to a tale of community heroism.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters were dispatched to a McPherson St home at around 3 am Thursday, only to find the rear of the property ablaze.
A family of six was inside the house, sound asleep and unaware of the imminent danger.
Just in the nick of time, the family's 80-year-old neighbour, Reginald Wright, saved the family out of danger.
Mr Wright, who only woke up to go to his bathroom, heard a loud bang before going back to bed.
As he rushed to his lounge room window, another startling noise confirmed his fears: his neighbour's house was on fire.
Without hesitation, Mr Wright raced over to the family's home and pounded their windows with urgency.
'I said, "Get out, get out! The bloody house is on fire,"' he recounted.
Thanks to his alarm, the family immediately fled their home.
The 'pretty big' fire engulfed the home, with flames reaching six to eight feet high.
The FRV managed to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes, but the house sustained significant damage.
The rear of the home was ravaged by fire, with the rest of the home suffering from smoke and water damage.
The local building surveyor assessed the house's structural integrity, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Despite his heroic act, Mr Wright humbly dismissed it as something he would do.
'It was just how I was raised,' he said as he embodied the spirit of community and selflessness.
'I'd do the same for anyone.'
After his courageous efforts, Mr Wright needed treatment for smoke inhalation to ensure his safety.
