Heartthrob pilot explains why turbulence is nothing to lose sleep over - aircraft engineer CONFIRMS it’s true!

Does anyone else have a mini heart attack during bumpy, rough flights? Well, you’re definitely not alone. According to a survey held by a travel insurance specialist, over one in three Australians suffer from a fear of flying – and it’s getting worse.
56 percent of the passengers surveyed admitted that they had become more afraid despite there only being one fatal accident per 2.52 million flights back in 2018, according to the Aviation Safety Network – meaning that the chances of our plane crashing, in reality, are MUCH lower than we think.
However, if the statistics aren’t sufficient to calm your pre-flight nerves, maybe some reassurance from one of the experts in charge will do it!
One pilot has gone viral on TikTok after sharing an incredibly reassuring explanation behind why turbulence really isn’t dangerous. The video, which drummed up 2.1 million views, followed after user @durbinmalonster shared the moment she experienced horrifying turbulence on a plane.

When she noticed that the majority of her viewers were terrified of the occurrence, she thought it would be best to consult her friend, pilot and roommate John, in hopes to ease their worries.
"Turbulence is not dangerous," John begins. "There's never been a report of a plane going down because of turbulence.”
"There can be sometimes people getting injured inside the plane if they are not properly seatbelted," he adds but continues: “Other than that, planes go through such difficult tests in order to get certified to fly.”
John revealed that before planes get the big thumbs up to fly, their wings have to undergo a test which includes having to bend them to almost 90 degrees in order to measure how much wind pressure they can withstand.
He then proceeded to share a video of a wing-bending test on a plane, revealing just how far the wings are tested – and he wasn't lying as the wings were truly bent to a nearly 90-degree angle. Pretty mind-blowing, eh?

We’re definitely relieved at this point thanks to John’s ‘behind-the-scenes’ info, and hopefully, you are too. But it seems as though the majority of users were mesmerised by something else completely… John’s smile.
Thousands swarmed the comments section of the video to express their utter admiration and love for the charming pilot.
“He is the only one I want to deliver me bad news.” teased one user.
“Turbulence may not be dangerous. John’s smile, however, is.” said another.
“Hey John, my wings can also bend 90 degrees!” joked a third and garnered over 200 likes.
A fourth gushed: “This is the most adorable man I've ever seen in my whole life.”
And another: “Girl, if you don’t marry him I will.”
One user claimed to be an aircraft engineer and confirmed that John’s information was accurate, saying: “Just to add to that, I’m an aircraft engineer and can confirm this is true! When building an aircraft, we have to be sure it can handle stresses. Turbulence counts in this, so we always make sure the aircraft will be safe to fly, otherwise, we won’t let it fly!”
We hope John makes more videos in the future so we can learn more about planes and definitely not… stare into his dreamy eyes. Do you also get the jitters while on a flight? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
