Have you been opening spaghetti packets wrong this whole time?

If you’ve ever broken out into a sweat battling with a bag of spaghetti, trying to figure out how to open it safely without letting pasta fly everywhere and creating a mess in your kitchen – then you’re not alone.

Luckily, one social media content creator by the name of Dustin Hadley shared a video online, revealing the incredibly easy way to open a packet of spaghetti that you’ve (probably) never heard of before.

Dustin Hadley has gained quite the following on social media, amassing 2.5 million followers, all eager to learn from his easy-to-follow tips. In one of his recent videos that has gone viral (with over 9.6 million views), Dustin reveals the correct way to open a packet of spaghetti.

In the video, Dustin reacts to two other social media users attempting to open spaghetti packets: one uses the traditional (and often frustrating) method of ripping it open, and the other, in contrast, bangs the packet on a bench.

Intrigued by the latter, Dustin decides to give it a whirl.

‘You’re telling me for 40 years that spaghetti packet has been driving me nuts when I could have been doing this? There’s no way,’ he said in the video as he prepared to test out the method for his audience.

Then, he tells his followers that normally he would reach for the scissors or ‘fight’ to open the packet.

‘But apparently, there’s an easy way to do it,’ he said.

Dustin demonstrates that all you need to do is hold onto the middle of the packet and then bang the bottom of the packet on your countertop.

Instantly, the spaghetti comes out of the top in an orderly manner, much to Dustin's (and our) amazement.

The video has received thousands of comments from people also shocked by this revelation, many of whom expressed gratitude.

‘Are you kidding me?’ One asked.

‘I swear I’ve learned more from your videos than I have in my previous 36 years. Thank you!’ Another commented.

A third replied: ‘I would end up doing something stupid and breaking the noodles.’ To which Hadley responded with: ‘I was afraid they would break too, but they didn’t.’

‘I just worked a good tearing method out, but this is much easier, thanks,’ someone else wrote.

Others joked around in the comments, asking Hadley where he’s been all this time.

‘Where were you? They’ve been doing this since the beginning of pasta,’ one quipped.

‘I think I was eating a burger,’ was Hadley’s lighthearted reply.

‘Yep, I've been working in an Italian restaurant, and they open the spaghetti packs just like that,’ someone explained.

While some viewers were less impressed, claiming this method was already common knowledge for them.

One commenter even claimed that this method was well-known in Italy, saying, 'As an Italian…this IS the correct way to open spaghetti’.

If this method of opening a packet of spaghetti sounds familiar to you, it may be because an Italian grandma already showed you the ‘proper’ way of doing it last year.

In a video shared on social media, the grandma stunned her internet fans and demonstrated how she opened a packet of spaghetti effortlessly by bashing the pasta packet’s bottom against the surface of her kitchen table, breaking it open completely.

The video went viral, amassing more than 13 million views and thousands of comments from astounded users. You can read the rest of the story here.

I have always cut off the top of the packet and, since there is no adverse effect regardless of what method one uses, I shall continue to cut off the top.

I honestly didn't know this and was amazed with what I watched... but at the risk of wrecking the pasta, I'm also on Team Scissors
