Hand-operated mincer

Remember when every kitchen had one of those clunky hand-operated mincers clamped to the benchtop? Turning that handle took some elbow grease—but oh, the satisfaction of seeing the mince come out just right! For many, it was a childhood memory of helping Mum or Nan with the Sunday roast leftovers.

Some folks still use theirs today—along with enamel canisters, old colanders, and jugs that have seen more than a century of family meals. They don’t make kitchen gear like that anymore! Do you still have an old mincer (or other classic kitchen treasures) tucked away? Share your stories below—we’d love to hear what’s still going strong in your kitchen.

My grandmother had one back in the 1940s.

Mincing meat was not its only use. One of my jobs was to use it to grind up grains of wheat which was used to make the porridge for breakfast.

My Mum had one and used it frequently, especially for the left over roast meat which became mince for shepherd's pie. Yum!

Actually I still have my mothers one.
This one got all the different attachments
Was mainly used to make tomato sauce & the traditional Italian pork sausages & maybe different types of Pasta 🍝

I also had a similar one and gave it to a woman with 5-6 cats as she would mince different foods for them.
