Hand beater​

Who remembers the old hand beater? That noisy but fun kitchen gadget you used to mix up batches of cookies and cakes with mum? Ah, the memories of flour flying everywhere and the sweet scent of freshly baked treats filling the air! Did you ever get the chance to wield one of these?

Loved the memories of cooking with my Mum and watching my Grandmother’s cook. To this day, I don’t use an electric beater unless doing egg whites or a special cake. Saw the beater in a museum and wished I had one that would be my type of beater!It said circa 1902.

Not sure if photo will come through but basically it looks the same as an electric beater with bowl attachment except instead of plugging it in there is a handle to turn it, love the whole concept, bring them back! Saves on electricity and builds the arm muscles.

I still have one. It was my mother’s and would be about 75 years old. It is strong & sturdy, & I still use it.

I had one and used it all the time, the top handle was made of green wood and the turning handle matched. I don't know what happened to it, it was a solid piece of machinery and I should have kept it and don't know where it went. Hang onto it as it would nearly be an antique by now!

Some of these supposed memories are a worry to over 60’s as we still have them somewhere in the cupboard. These are so handy when camping without power. Some use 12v rechargeable ones but it’s interesting how many times the old ways come in handy

i have to join Janet in saying I have Mum's and its still going strong. I call on my adult son to supply the power sometimes though. But having a wood stove and the hand beater meant my Nanna still turned out cakes, biscuits and pies in the middle of power blackouts

Yes, great memories of helping my Mum with the beaters and she always made yummy cakes such as chocolate, ginger and fruit cake. Chocolate and coconut slice and coconut biscuits! My husband uses these beaters to make pancakes on the odd occasion!

St ours, just like the one in photo. Use it all the time in the caravan and always remember family cooking days when l use it.

I still have my mother’s. It must be at least 60 years old! Still works perfectly too.

I remember using one of these as a kid, it was all my grandmother ever used, and mum didn’t get an electric mix master until the 70s, so I spent many hours beating so many different things with a hand beater. I still have one, looks exactly like the one pictured. An old lady friend gave it to me before she passed away, I often use it when I cant be bothered with the electric mixer. I’m not sure what happened to grandmas or mums, probably got thrown out as usually happened to these old relics when electric models became available. My grandkids love having a go of the old beater.
