An influx of children from Gwalia came to my primary school. They spoke of their old town with affection and were like refugees for a while.
Kalgoorlie was threatened with becoming a ghost town and many people left the Goldfields until nickel mining started in 1968. There are lots of old hotels, like the one in the photo, still operating, and the town is thriving.
