Grandma's Cottage Pie

I've always loved Cottage Pie.

This recipe you can also use lamb mince then it becomes a Sheperd pie

Ingredients​

  • 1kg beef mince
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 carrot diced
  • 2 celery sticks diced
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 2 beef stock cubes
  • 3 tbs cornflour
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • 1 tbs tomato sauce
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 cups mashed potato
  • 1 splash milk
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper *to taste


Method​

  1. Fry onion, carrot, celery and pepper in a deep frypan with salt and pepper until softened.
  2. Add the mince and remaining ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Spoon mixture into a baking dish, and top with mashed potato.
  4. Brush top with milk and bake at 185C for approximately 40 minutes or until potato has browned.

Note

You can add other vegetables of choice eg peas or corn
